We have setup a new site for all to enter their Cruising Logs experiences and we have been corresponding with the Cruising Association on ways to promote / endorse it.

www.cruisinglogs.org.uk

This is to compliment the Pilot Guides and if you notice the areas are directly taken from the Guides.
This system is Database driven and has a sophisticated system running behind it allowing easy searching.

We are looking to introduce new features as the users community request them. such as searching by user ID etc.and photo achives

We would welcome all to enter their past experiences into the System as only through users giving their information will the system become a powerful free knowledge base.

Please take this opportunity to look at the site and feedback any improvements / suggestions.

Thanks

I am always reluctant to register on a site unless I consider it worth using so I expect to be able to see what is available as a guest first - albeit with reduced functionality.

I second that

You need to give some indication of what is available.

You also do not say what you do with the email address (privacy and junk mail and such).

If you sort that out I will certainly take a closer look.

Regards
Charles

I agree again. Seems like a useful site but I would not register until I know that it's going to be useful to me. Maybe something on the lines of this forum where you can look but some functionality is restricted unless you register.
Best of Luck

Thank you for your feedback and all the direct emails that I have received today .
I have taken onboard the comments from the forum and have made the search facility accessible without having to submit any login details.

However, to add data to the site it is still necessary to login as a registered user. I have done this so there is accountability and to minimise entries which may contain profanaties or just downright unprintable.

Re: your comment CharlesM, this is a very valid point, and I have now stated the fact on the login page , that the email addresses will not be used for any other purpose other than to verify identity to enable login.

This is contrary it seems to the privacy statement of this forum !

Once again, I must thank those of you who contacted me directly via the site - I just hope that the enthusiasm lasts and that you continue to find the site a useful tool. It is one of the situations where the worth is in the community itself ,as the more we put in, the more value it will hold. Please carry on feeding back comments and I will do my best to rectify. Re: George - I hope that the search by user will be possible but I wanted to get feedback on the main site first.
Thank you

Richard

Many of us have permanent or winter berths in the Med. The site is aimed at cruisers who stop over for short periods (up to 1 month) but there is a mass of information that can be gleened from those who spend several months in one spot. Suggest not just month and year inputs but maybe all-year/wintering option.
anyone else agree?

Thanks everybody for your feedback/comments re: www.cruisinglogs.org.uk.

We have been very fortunate in that a chandlers has put up either a C-Map max cartridge or Imray pilot guides up to the same value as our first competition prize on the site. The judging criteria will be the entry with the most useful snippet of information about a port/anchorage.Terms and conditions can be viewed on the site.

As you know, the purpose of the site is to be a searchable focal point for subjective views and tips on a port/anchorage and as such will be more personal and current than some written publications
