We have setup a new site for all to enter their Cruising Logs experiences and we have been corresponding with the Cruising Association on ways to promote / endorse it.

www.cruisinglogs.org.uk

This is to compliment the Pilot Guides and if you notice the areas are directly taken from the Guides.
This system is Database driven and has a sophisticated system running behind it allowing easy searching.

We are looking to introduce new features as the users community request them. such as searching by user ID etc.and photo achives

We would welcome all to enter their past experiences into the System as only through users giving their information will the system become a powerful free knowledge base.

Please take this opportunity to look at the site and feedback any improvements / suggestions.

Thanks

A good idea

Point is, it is a framework, which if filled in by all the comp lit sailing folk, bugs reported etc etc, would develop into the dream rrees is clearly working on.
Which could be very useful to all of us.

It has, I have no doubt, already taken a lot of time, and now needs information and refining.

I'm on Safari, and I can't get back to the home page from search either.

Re: A good idea

Dear Clouty and Wiggo
Thanks for your feedback have now amended the search page so that there is a link back to home !
I must thank those of you who contacted me directly via the site - I just hope that the enthusiasm lasts and that you continue to find the site a useful tool. It is one of the situations where the worth is in the community itself ,as the more we put in, the more value it will hold. Please carry on feeding back comments and I will do my best to rectify.

Good idea but needs contributions, so let's all do it - there's enough experience on these fora to make this site really useful if we can all be arsed.

I'm a bit worried about the speed of the database . . . asp driven sites often seem very slow compared to php/MySQL driven sites on Unix platforms.

Thanks everybody for your comments re: www.cruisinglogs.org.uk. Re: the speed, the database has been moved to another server, asp was chosen as I have exciting developments planned for the mobile platforms in the future.

We have been very fortunate in that a chandlers has put up either a <font color="brown">C-Map max cartridge or Imray pilot guides </font> up to the same value as our first competition prize on the site. The judging criteria will be the entry with the most useful snippet of information about a port/anchorage.Terms and conditions can be viewed on the site.

As you know, the purpose of the site is to be a searchable focal point for subjective views and tips on a port/anchorage and as such will be more personal and current than some written publications
