After a much needed break in the weather i got to do one side of the boat which had been wet sanded. Im still not entirely happy with the results and will try to get some better pics in better daylight (was getting dark)

I used 3M pads with 3M perfect it polishes, maybe this is the best i can hope to achieve on 1997 gelcoat:confused:

Had to start with 1500 to remove the 'honeycombe' effect.

I tried the lighter cut at 1st but it didnt remove all the sanding marks, went for the fast cut on the green pad (not easy to control with a rotary)

One side of the boat done in fast cut, time to work my way back down with the 1st glaze.

ther shine is there, but...

Not the best light pic, as you can see there is little correction left to do, maybe this is an inherent feature of glecoat and on this boat its as good as it gets:confused:

How are you finding the new Flex rotary?
It's light isn't it!

You say you had problems controlling, with the pad combo....

Fast cut (3m) on a green (3m) pad would be a good jump from using the 2000, but you may have had a problem for a couple of reasons..

Did you prep the pad with spray lube or quick detailer before use?

The other would be using too much product, I can see a fair amount of fling on the wheel arch and too much product has 'caked' your pad.

If you don't prep the pad it will seem easier to just add more product, a case of less is more. :)

Have you tried using a 3m lambswool pad (05719) sorry to add to the shopping list?

The pad was prepped, the fling on the wheel arch is from the wet sanding (not going to wash the trailor untill boat is done)
product was spread as evenly as i alwyas have done, its the fact the pad is so stiff it doesnt like to follow any contour, i have a few other hard pads to try to get a preference;)

The picture of it wet sanded and the clean arch made me think it was fling from compound.

Anywho... so how are you finding the flex?
and have you tried a lambswool?

The Flex is a dream to use and well balanced, also nice I can hear the phone ring while using it. I have a brand new lambs wool and microfiber pad I'll try on the other side;)
I also got sent a free pad with the machine, think they may be a new brand?

I want to start using up a lot of my stuff and stick with one or two brands for simplicity and coordination.

Glad you went for the Flex, your arms & ears are going to thank you. :)
Yep a bit better balanced than your other one..

Yes, they are fairly new pads on the market,
Diagonally recessed centre pads, they are good on saving product and from caking the pad, found them a bit big for me though, possibly they will bring out some 6"ones to try.

Glad you have a lambswool already, try it after the 2000 and it should give better results in returning from the wet sanding.

Don't forget your gel is probably much harder than most, looking very good though not many like yours around.

Little ship is right though, no-one will notice them..

Unless you have an illness like us :D

Finally got to complete the other side, after taking marineReflections advice I got far better results using the lambswool pad, it did take to passes to get it to near 100% correction.

A few marks still
