Good Morning All,

I know this is a bit of a long shot but here,s hoping.

Around the mid 70,s the BBC did a program about the Suffolk waters and boat yards interviewing
people along the way.
Friends of ours Peter and Margaret Ellis were filmed enjoying a pint in the Butt and Oyster. Sadly
Peter is no longer with us but I,m trying to trace a copy for Margaret.

Also does anybody know or remember Peter and Margaret they spent a lot of time sailing around
the East coast and some well documented trips further a field, even making a PBO magazine article a
couple of times.

Margaret is now approaching her 100 birthday and I,m trying to put something together so any little
snippets on them or there yacht "Macavity" would be brilliant.

Thanks in advance,
Richard.

Hi sailorman
I,ve sent of a couple of emails to the BBC, no reply as yet.
Macavity was a Prout 33 I believe. They had several boats ranging from dinghy's to yachts all named after T S Eliot.
They also did very well in the National 12 class taking quite a bit of silverware over the years.

Cheers,
Rich.

BBC have very good archives, a friend works in documentary production and they use the archives a lot.

On a separate note, was doing some work on a tug the other day in Felixstowe and there was a few boats filming bits and bobs on the water outside the big ships. Not sure whether its a PoF private thing on whether it was TV material.

It's for TV series.

Unfortunately, as any Dr Who fan will tell you, they also destroyed a lot of old video tapes a) because they didn't think they were of any value and b) to save space. I guess the old Ampex tapes are pretty big!

A friend of ours owned a Prout called macavity until a few years ago, (I helped them take it to Chichester to sell it) and it was based at Brigjtlinsea for a while (where their current cat is now based). PM me if you think it’s the same one and you want to be in touch.

Just to say thank you for all your help, some very interesting leads.
Pandroid, I have sent details by pm hopefully they've arrived if not just let me know, it would be fantastic if this was the same yacht.

I know my details are a bit vague, the reason being I have only met Margaret for a short time at a cousins wedding. Already aware I sailed on the east coast she tracked me down and we had a chat.

Didn't really think anymore about it until a couple of months later a large parcel arrived. In it was Peter,s Log,s charts books along with folders of notes from all the places they had been, a truly fascinating read. With just a short note to say hope their useful and to enjoy.

Since then I get regular parcels arrive each time she clears out the attic and I try to return the favour by sending back dvd and photos of what ever is happening now.

So thank you all again because even the tiniest snippet of information makes a remarkable Lady very happy.

All the best,
Richard.

You tube just miggt br wort a try.

BBC Enterprises might be worth a try ; they organise and sell BBC outputs , some Historical, now ;

Also BFI might have a copy or similar progs available

Re the BBC deciding to Wipe Video tapes clean and reuse them ; I was employed then in Tele Recording and the Ampex Video Tapes were I recall 2 "(50mm) width and I recall three were used each hour ; storing plus cost was given us as to the decision to Wipe Them Clean for re-use ; we made a Machine for Bulk Wiping them ; Mind you most progs were Backed up with 16mm film or 35mm if of sufficient quality ; so there might be a 16mm back recording up film somewhere

Very good thought there kind Sir ; wish you all the very best in your searches and quest
