I have been making a simple fiddle rail for the cooker.

Ive bent up the basic rail from 15mm wide aluminium flat strip and am now wondering how high above the pan supports it should be.

A frying pan is the most difficult thing to retrain so am think of getting one of these rectangular pans, which have handles designed to fit over the rail, and making the height of the rail to suit.

Any useful comments regarding the fiddle rail ?

Above may supply ideas.
Older boaters may have used bare Spring lengths with hooks a la net curtain hanging variety.A bit Fiddly but combined with your already formed Alu bar might provide a secure positioning if the bar you made can be drilled with suitable small holes to take the spring hook ends.
All to play for,good luck.

Takes a while to ferret out these clamps

Those pot clamps would finish the job off nicely

I think its an American site VicS, so best order before the referendum to lessen import duty. There may be a bit of info on the site under postage etc.
Glad to be of assistance.

Looking at the Boaties pan; the description says that it is 45mm deep, and in the photo, the horizontal part of the handle, just after the bend, looks to add about another 15mm, so 60 would seem right.
If you were able to make a slight inward curve on the top edge you would be sure to keep the pan in the right place. It doesn't need to be right round the perimeter, just the central bit of each side.

I think the pan ( i did measure it but I've forgotten already) is actually a bit less than 45 .. Anyway I made the rail so that the top edge is about 45mm high. The pan almost fits the cooker top so no need for an inward curve

It all fits nicely after a little bit of "adjustment" :). and looks smart too. Chalking it up as a success
Square fry ups from now on. Probably should have bought the lid as well but needed new wellies

One snag I ran into was the availability of aluminium pop rivets in the size ( grip range) I needed. Had make do with 3mm when I really needed 4mm. Next size I could get locally was 7mm

Anybody need any 3mm x 7mm Al pop rivets !!!!!

I should have photographed it.

Already thinking I could usefully add a bit of a wind shield to the end closest to the companion way.

We use a griddle pan like this

And our fixed fiddle work well

Lots of different griddle pans here.

With a shallow pan the best pot holder is a flat bar that is the shape of the pan ,either square or round the is adjustable in height attached to the fixed fiddle rails.

I have 2 types a bent round bar to clamp vertical side round pans

and flat bar of a height adjustable to hold sloping side pans that are adjusted so the rim of the pan is held within the height of the flat bar.

It'd be good to see some photo's! I'll be looking at making a fiddle rail as I can't afford the pot holders.. :o

Well here's a photo .... fwiw

Obviously the design would have to be modified to suit any potholders you may buy.

with hindsight a bit of a wind shield could have been incorporated on the LHS. Still possible to add something .

Thanks for the photo, looks good! We're off on our 2nd trip on the boat next week, so will ponder whilst holding pots and hoping not to burn hands on tarp clamps! :-)

Beware pot holders like the ones shown in the ebay link. The design is similar to ones that when the screw is tightened the jaw just opens up.
if I were to make some I would fit a spring plunger and drill holes in the fiddle, lots of holes.
