Ferries to oostende for next weekend.

Doug

I am sure that someone would give you a lift there.
You would be welcome to travel with us but we have 4 aboard already and no sensible spare berth.
We are leaving Ramsholt on Thursday evening.
Our return to the U.K. should be into Queenbrough on Monday or Tuesday evening.

Thanks Clive.
My problem is that I cant really take days off now.
I looked at getting a train Friday pm but the return fare is over £300....I might just as well take Still Dunno at that price.
I want to leave home mid friday pm and back home by late monday/early Tuesday.
its a bu@@er working for yourself.

and I just noticed that was my 4000th post

My 'special subject' Ferries: so much more than a navaid :o

Anyway, Trans Europa Ferries out of Ramsgate is your only option.
The service out of Ipswich is freight only.

Book online here - select 'foot passenger' :p

They only take "passengers travelling in vehicles" if you read the "company" section on the website.
If they do take foot passengers with out a vehicle it is a very recent thing.

I guessed you might come up with an answer.

But

It says "foot passenger cannot be booked on the Ramsagte to Oostende service"

If I do take the car
where can I park it for the weekend?
I could fill her with some refreshements before returning :D

Could you do Harwich to Hoek van Holland and then get a train to Oostende? You could do the overnight ferry which works rather well and can do that as a foot passenger (or you could even take your bicycle). The Dutch Flyer ticket provides rail travel to anywhere in Holland for an extra £6 each way, you could then get a train to Oostende from the Dutch/Belgian Border, I imagine.

Funny that - Brigitte travelled as a foot passenger not so long ago - Icelandic ash :o

Might be worthwhile giving them a call.

If you do take the car - Robert, as always, is your man.
You can park right on the doorstep - behind the barrier it is private (club) property & no pay & display.
Robert has the key :D

Sheila is coming by car - with somebody else's husband
I am sailing there with somebody else's wife

They hope to park courtsey of Robert. (Someone told me yesterday that he had retired )

They are catching a midday ferry on Saturday from Ramsgate so won't be over until tea-time. And they are not coming back for a week. Not much use to you Doug is it? Hope you get sorted.

London City A/P to Oostende direct flights

Drive and take a ferry/train to Calais. It's one hour up the excellent toll-free motorway to Oostende.

Taking the ferry/train to Calais gives more choice and thus less cost. Unless they're still flush with their success with their attempts to blow up another volcano.

As has been said, the Ramsgate/Oostende ferry's been vehicle passengers only for years.

Mind you, with a budget of £300, you could buy a moped off a chavvy oik in Ramsgate:-)

Having spent the last year working in Ramsgate building the windfarm my Dutch colleagues gave up using Transeuropa in favour of the tunnel or dover/ calais. They claimed it was quicker to drive the extra 45 minutes either end than spend the 3 or 4 hours on the ferry that brought them to where they needed to be (all be it the wrong side of the fence!).
If they did take foot passengers it was possibly only in response to the tunnel problem or volcanic ash.
