Fenders - how to inflate?

I bought some smashing new Anchor fenders at Beaulieu last year and they came complete with a sort of needle which I assume is for inflation.

I have still to figure out how I actually use this device. There appears to be a valve with a black plug in it in the fender. Do I remove the plug and insert the needle (which seems to be able to take my foot pump at one end)? And does it rely upon me putting the plug back in again to make it airtight?

Yes unscrew the black plug, insert needle and pump up, replace screw plug.
Foot pump might be hard work, have you got a pump that runs off the car cigar lighter?.
If the needle does not fit your pump, most chandlers sell an Anchor set of adapters, don't think it cost much, but I bought mine several years ago.
Good pumping.

Aaah! I see...

A little plug comes out of the end of the valve. Ridiculously easy when you know how. Mission accomplished - footpump was fine for the job - in fact I was a bit overenthusiastic and over inflated to begin with.

Many thanks for you help.

Re: Aaah! I see...

Slightly off topic but I've got a fender of this typre that has a load of water in it and I can't seem to get it out. Is the "valve" inside the fender just a piece of rubber tube? If so, I'll just shove a rigid bit of tube up the inside of it to expand it but I'm wary of doing that in case it is some sort of other mechanism that will be damaged by doing this.
