Does nobody keep an anchor watch any more when circumstances necessitate being in an unsatisfactory anchorage without the option of moving to a better one?

We used to hang a couple of filthy old tyres off the bow and stern and that seemed to ensure no one anchored anywhere near. Make sure they dont touch the hull though as they leave nasty smears.
