Fender board ?

Shortly off for first trip along the N.French coast, suggested ports of call, B-sur-Mer,, Dieppe, Fecamp, Ouistreham, St Vaast & Cherbourg.

What is the advise on the need for a fender board ? I would like to save the space, but can strap the plank on if the Forum thinks it's worthwhile.

What is the recommendation ?

you can rely instead on large round fenders 2 ft diameter but these are even more difficult to stow. All I do is strap a plank to the stranchions

I carry a fender board - it saves a lot of worry when visiting new harbours. Unless SWMBO insists on pontoons I suggest you stow one on the guard rail well forward

Nothing req apart from your normal fenders.
i do have a fender board stowed o/b in case req at any time

Take a hose pipe & a double male connector ( Boulogne) the French do not normally provide hose`s

I carry a fender board and have visted all these ports several times over the years and never used it. I think a large round fender is much more useful, for example when springing off. BTW, I would avoid Fecamp, it's become a bit of a dump. Much nicer is nearby St Valery en Caux, though access is tide-dependant.

I find two short fender boards more useful than one, and being short they stow in a cockpit locker.

I have a 2 piece 10ft ladder, useful for harbour walls and potentialy as a fender board, tho never needed yet.
Plan to tie fenders horizontaly between the rungs boat side.

I don't think you'll need a fender board for any of these marinas, and not even for the lock to Ouistreham. It's only when you start up the Seine that they become necessary for the locks there.
