Female lock keeper

Up here on the Trent we have a couple. Both are lovely ladies and neither laugh when you cock up a lock entry (found this out when we shunted the side of West Stockwith earlier this year with the rails.)

what happened to Gay? She was at Hurley for a while

(As a lock keeper) she was a lovely, lovely lady.
When I first met her she was a relief at Shepperton, and it was great seeing her get the Keepership (!!) at Hurley, and I wondered what happened to her.

I put that sort of person in my list of "traditional" lockkeepers who will be sorely missed whether they retire or move on.

It takes a while for replacements to get "conditioned by the river", some will never make it and others acclimatise in time.

Many a time I've had a *******ing from folks who know better than I, all of which I have learnt and respected, but in these days of PCness, most are afraid to say anything, in fear of getting a "Disciplinary". A pity 'cos users need to be kept in line....

Anyway Gay, f you get to hear about this thread, those that knew you, miss you.

Now, for those whose craft is a bit flatter than most, there's a lovely lady up at King's who is great - once she gets to know you.

There are a few females acting as reliefs / summer assistants - but they're a declining class. It's tough winding some weirs.

..starting to degenerate to the level of a working men's club.

Only met the one at West Stockwith and I agree she is lovely, and not bad looking which does help.

Have you come across Captain Chaos yet?
