If people are going to feel the urge to start a thread every time they go out for a sail, the forum will collapse under the weight of numbers! Sailing is what we all do ( with the exception of a few Brexit trolls). It's no big deal.

It certainly is! Culatra, one of my favourite chilled out places. Watched a Westerly drift sideways past us there when the afternoon breeze got up a bit! They didnt realise at first, then they did, then they started the engine, then the sideways drift, then finally they got it up as they went by us and got everything under control. It was one of those new fangled ones with a roll over hoop. My missus said, I love my Delta! She is in charge of that end of the boat!

Didnt go sailing today, met up with capnsensible in the LL bar and chewed the fat for a couple of hours.
Had just as much fun.

I thought he had a Chinese crew. Someone called Lau. I wonder if it's the same one as ran the Chinese laundly and tailor's shop in HMS Gambia. Bloke called Lau Kam Pui. Never managed to starch my collars properly.

Even before buying our current boat, it was clear that liveaboard was the prime target.
Even in 1987 the boat was old and small, but I had an instant “Feeling good” when first inspecting it.
I had to learn cabin boat sailing, saw sailing as a no thrill slow easy way of moving my new ( old ) home.
For thrills, I could still do windsurfing ( I was a regional champion ) and Delta flying.
I had two wishes back then. I wanted to see the tomb graves on the Dalyan river ( Turkey ) and wanted to sail up the Nile. Not as a fly in tourist, but visit from my own boat.
I managed almost my first wish, but not quite. We anchored more than once just before the bar of the Dalyan river. I went sounding a lot from our dinghy, found that the bar had sanded up, 1,5 feet to shallow for our boat. So we visited by dinghy.
I also did a survey of a wooden yacht on the hard in a small yard up the Dalyan river. That yacht had the same draft as our boat. They had careened the yacht, then pulled it over the bar with one of those tourist boats to enter the deeper river. That way of proceeding was a little over the top for my dream.
The Nile... to late. Forget it.
I still feel good.
Living wherever I want to be. Am still happily surprised at every new arrival. Even if it is not the first time some bay opens for me.
For the sailing, it gets better. Last month I managed more than once 7 knots.
I know, you guys do that all the time with your modern 50 footers.
Our little boat is 27 feet waterline, displaces 8 tons and has 80 years on the keel. Furthermore I do no sailing upwind with more than 16 kn of wind. That is over. Getting to old to manage four working sails beating up.
So I am playing with light weather sails. Fun.
Feeling good.
Having no permanent neighbours is a good feeling also from what I hear from dirt living acquaintances.

I can't imagine not living aboard.
So what else makes peeps go ohhh, yeah baby!
Seeing the batteries fully charged almost every day gives a certain satisfaction, as does the little old lady up the market who recognises me now sift through for the best tomatoes / peppers..
So many little things, the slightly dodgy looking fisherman on a local open boat slowing down so there's less wake as he passes me in the dinghy with a relaxed friendly wave.
That creak and the bow dipping down as the anchor digs in deep..

Just think, you might not have jumped and untied those mooring warps tied tightly to a regimented life on land and in a job..
