Favourite Restuarants - accessible by Boat from East Coast

West Mersea Oyster Restaurant, the best Fish and chips around, they turn them over so quickly they are fantastic, this following 1/2 doz native no 4's and a bottle of very decent white burgundy for about £14 a bottle, probably my favorite place on any British coast
Also the Alma in Harwich, very highly recommended since the new guy took over, bit of a character by all accounts, very good menu, execution not quite as good as it sounds, but good nevertheless, he was smoking kippers and bloaters in a girt great steel box in the front garden on Easter Sunday - An experiment he said! One i would like to try!
The Restaurant in the Aquarium in Bologne, 1 star Michellin I believe. fantastic fruit de mere.

Brandy Hole YC River Crouch
The Galley B o C (Was the Oyster Smack Pub)
The fish & chip shop next to the war memorial B o C

+1 to:
Yacht Club in Breskens
Yacht Club in Middleburg
Thai in Ramsgate

and I venture to add...

Ostende - many, many places but we like Flandria for moules and frites and our current favourite "Toi, Moi et la mer"
Boulogne - La Matelote - superb michelin-starred french cuisine
Zierikzee - De Beuze
Brightlingsea - Kovalam (can't believe no one has mentioned it yet)
Goes - Karel V

Very agreeable at the Italian place overlooking the Harbour at Ramsgate. Preferred it to the Thai which, although the food was good, had an unpleasant whiff coming from the cellar. It was strong enough to permeate the whole room!
La Magnolia

Try the Olde Bell and Steelyard in New Street Woodbridge.

Adrian and Siggy will make you really welcome, food is excellent and a reasonable price, decent selection of wines.

One of our must go there if in the vicinity places.

Regards

Ian & Jo

Sadly, Adrian and Siggy are no longer at The Olde Bell and Steelyard! They moved at the start of the month to take over at The Ship in Woodbridge...knowing Adrian and Siggy the welcome will be just as good there!!

It may be because we have mainly visited the Olde Bell and Steelyard as part of largish groups but the food has always been average at best. The last time we went (October) it appeared that vegetables had been allowed to boil dry (they looked like it has been BBQ'd) but were still served.

Am told that the Manager has been on an extended holiday but now is back so expecting normal service to resume.
Well...all I can add is that if he was back prior to the 30th March then he is obviously still taking it easy as it was pretty dire! Service in there is never that quick but on Saturday, clean shaven chaps on arrival were leaving with beards! The quality was also debatable with some dishes having a less than healthy coating of oil floating on the surface...Will NOT be going back any time soon!

Chip shop in Brightlingsea near the harbour is always a must for us when we need to eat on a visit. Back home in Burnham, the Contented Sole has changed hands and is now 'the Soul'. Reports from friends say the food is excellent and the prices look reasonable from pressing my nose up against the outside menu.

Plus we like Rio's Tapas Bar in the High Street - just about opposite the Baptist Church. Recommended it before and got subsequent posts saying it wasn't authentic Tapas. Not sure about that but it's excellent value, the choice is wonderful and everything tastes good.
