Following on from the Ramsholt Arms thread I thought it might be interesting to get other views on good places to eat.

Always risky in that the chef could leave between visits and the place change beyond all recognition.

Calais- Le Grand Bleu - by the fish market. Ate here last with one of my boys and Clive and Tim last May. 4 courses (I think) including 'mise en bouche' with choices for about 25 euros. Varied menu in French so that's a laugh trying to work out what is what to start with! And I seem to recall the waitress had lovely 'eyes'.

Bit closer to home for a lunch stop the chippy on the hard in Brightlingsea - credit crunch fish & chips - plaice last time - for £3.50. Particularly good when they are quiet and it is cooked while you wait.
 
Oare (near Faversham, and a few yards from the head of Oare Creek) - the Three Mariners, excellent Shepherd Neame gastro-pub, lunches particularly good value.
Ipswich, in the new development 100yds west of the Haven marina buildings (across the main road) there is a darn good Chinese buffet.
Ramsgit, the 'Thai Style' restaurant in the terrace immediately beneath the yacht club.
 
The oyster bar at West Mersea. From pan fried Turbot on wild mushroom risotto to fish n chips and all points in between. Fabulous! And of course West Mersea native oysters.
The yacht club at Breskens, great food,great view and smoked winkles on the bar.

have you been there recently?
Went there a 3-4 of years ago - very mediocre food and unfriendly staff. (OK - it was rather busy, but there's no need to take out your frustrations on paying customers)
If things have changed, would give them another try.

In Blankenberg I always head for the Ibis bar at the end of the old dock. The food is variable but they serve Kasteel on draught. It isn't easy playing crazy golf after two.

In Colinjsplaat there are several restaurants. The one looking down the high street is quite good for Holland but hardly cheap. Dover soles something of a speciality.

Norderney, the yacht club is good, also Rendsberg.

Here in Wivenhoe, the Bake House usually does a decent meal and is better than before it changed hands a few years ago.
 
Unlike OR123456789 we have enjoyed all our trips to Ship at Levington.

Green Man at Bradwell still works for me - Mickey has been there years.

Contented Sole in Burnham is excellent and very pricey, but the Oyster Smack have really turned their game around. Had a terrific Valentines Night there this year.

The Chequers at Goldhanger is also very good, but a bit of a trek.

If you haven't been, try the WSKLum (Air Force Yacht Club) on the other side.
Equally good quality - and generous portions - in a friendly and democratic setting (bill equally friendly and democratic).

Avoid the VVW - McDonalds with delusions of grandeur.

Agree about VVW but love their automated shop hole-in-the-wall thingy. Tried WSKL but the garlic salad prawns at KYCN are just too good.
 
Going foreign, I would heartily recommend the following two:

In Ostend:

By the Fisheries Dock - away from the tourist traps and well worth the ferry ride across the harbour (FOC).
Good, honest food well prepared.
A chat to the owner (skipper/owner of Tomedi - the last Belgian yacht to sail in the Whitbread RTW race) may well cost you the afternoon once he hits his stride.

Plus one for the Le Newhaven, has been consistently good for the last 10 years of so. Similarly l'estouffade in Dunkerque has always offered decent grub when we have visited.

Pete's Fish Factory in Ramsgit is an almost obligatory guilty pleaure when passing through.
