Faulty Eberspacher fuel pump

Narrowed the problem down to the fuel metering pump on my D3L unit. No fuel coming out but power is there. Can the pump be dismantled for cleaning? It looks like a sealed unit apart from the outlet end. I think it might be blocked up with gunge. Any ideas? If not does anyone have one for sale?

There\'s a tiny filter in the inlet...

There's a tiny filter in the inlet side of the pump. Take the pump out, dismantle carefully and clean. If you want a picture, see here - go to page 29, the fuel filter is item 35 on the diagram.

You say power is there. The power should actually be a series of short pulses from the control unit not a constant 12 volts. If it's a constant 12volts the control unit could be b****rd

I have to service mine as it's not starting until second or third attempt. I talked with Krueger and they sent me a replacement filter and connecting hoses plus clips (items 31a, 32, 35, 51 and 52 on the diagram). I was advised to be careful to make sure I used 2 spanners to undo the inlet connection which gives access to the tiny filter. It's easy to strip the thread otherwise.

Apparently the hoses can perish and let air in when they get old, and this is a common problem they find. I'll replace them and try to clean the old filter so that I keep the new as a spare.

My heater is 89 vintage and still going strong apart from the odd problem from time to time. The main power fuse was dropping 1.5 Volts and I had to replace it a couple of years ago.

Replaced the little filter today after the heater wouldn't start at the 4th attempt. It only took a few minutes, and hey presto! Now starts first time.

What took more than a few minutes was finding the fuel pump. I'd assumed it was near the heater, but it was tucked away above the fuel tank and below the cockpit sole, which is fairly inaccessible. There's an inspection hatch in the cockpit locker, so out came the dinghy, outboard etc and eventually I was able to get to it.

Now lovely and warm with very little sign of unburnt fuel in the exhaust.
