After visiting Fairland yesterday at the boat show and being personally shown round all of their boats even though I made it clear new boats were a bit out of my league ,I was contacted today by email by the rep for Plymouth area saying he was sorry to have missed me and get in touch if he can help at all.After thanking him I mentioned I had a 1999 phantom 38 and didn't have an owners manual. Within the hour someone from records had sent me 3 PDF's with the full phantom 38 owners manual ! Pretty great service I would say and if anyone wants a copy I would be very happy to forward the email .

That's nice to hear. I gotta say that the team now running Fairline are an excellent bunch. Nearly all are ex the old fairline of course, but they are such a helpful team that customers will find it great to deal with them. They are clever about keeping in touch with customers and I gotta say that the new designs in the works from Mr Mancini are outstanding. I need to make a comment on the main Southampton boat show thread about that.

I hasten to add that the chaps now running Fairline are the good guys from the old days, not the bad ones :)!
 
The guy who showed me round the boats had only been with the firm for 4 weeks I think he said but he was certainly knowledgeable about every boat and in no rush to move on to visitors far more likely to purchase a boat than me !! Happy to pass on details and forward PDF's if you can bear with me until tomorrow . It made me glad to own a Fairland even if its an old one !!

I think you mis-understand your importance to Fairline, that the salesman has recognised - you have already made the hefty commitment to buying one of their craft, unlike ~90% of their visitors who will likely never own any boat, and ~99% who will never own a Fairline. Therefore he is fully aware that should your circumstances change you more than anyone else will be the best candidate for another Fairline at some point in the future.

Assuming you were to move up in say 3 or 4 years, then you would very possibly buy another Fairline or perhaps a Princess or Sunseeker, etc. But thats a distinct ~10 - 25% likelihood you could opt for another Fairline within say 4 or 5 years. His treatment of you could move this towards 30 - 50% likelihood. Not many other of his visitors will be hitting anything remotely close to that level of likely future purchase potential. Bear in mind even at a good show with thousands of visitors, they will likely only sell say 4 or 5 boats on the back of the show.

OK so you aren't getting your cheque book out at this boatshow, nor perhaps the next one or two, but after that who knows. And even if it is for another secondhand Fairline, this releases another buyer to purchase one of their new offerings. He is breeding brand loyalty, and you are on here talking about it - well done Fairline.

I think u have hit the nail on the head 100%.
We are going to the boat show this weekend and won't be buying any new boats, all tho we all love boats everything to do with them & can't get enough of boating.
2 of us own fairline's & the 3rd a princess, now we have all said this year we aren't really bothered about looking at big things, & rather look at relevant boats to us in the 40-50ft market.
That way we get to see what's new, how technology is progressing & what is shaping things to come.
Yes we won't be buying those new boats now but in 5-10 years time we most likely will be be changing our boats for the newer versions & yes I agree brand loyalty does seem to stick, to the point there's lots of joking about the highs & lows of each brand between friends.
But if you have closed shop stands with appointment only, cold sales men/women only interested in signing up there & then it does start to make u feel like the show is only for people that are buying new or full of bull.... that they are going to buy new and it's not for the average family & if that's the case it's not really a show.
So I think the attitude described above is the right attitude, because at the end of the day most people there have paid to go & they are interested in some way shape or form be it starting out, trading up, buying new, or just love boats.
I think its slightly different to walking in to a local dealership on a rainy afternoon for something to do & asking to look at every model going wasting sales mans time then just walk off with no exspense to them.
So me been biast ! And owning a fairline I say spot on keep up the good work & see you this weekend !!
 
As someone who is never going to own a large boat (based on the odds of winning the Euromillions) can I just say that all the main "UK" brands were very welcoming yesterday. We went on Fairlines, Princesses, Sunseekers and Sealines and the attendants were not only happy to let us on board but were also happy to answer "spectator" level questions. (and I know from my son who is there selling Intender boats just how annoying spectator level questions are!)

I remember the Fairline team about 2/3 years ago with there heads up there arses , not letting anyone near there stand .
Appointment only attitude so many people walking away , I bet they didn't realise it was the road to being flushed down the toilet that year, I heard stories about there MD turning up half way through the show telling staff they wouldn't have a job by Monday unless the sales figures were brought into line.
How attitude changes when faced with economic disaster, no wonder as it was then EBY pulled the plug on Fairline , good job they did for there own wellbeing.
I've not been to the show this year but interested in what the sales numbers are.
I've never seen the UK market so low with used boats this year.
I'd guess it's down to demise of companies like UK factory Sealine and the scaling down of Fairline , the used market always relied on owners trading up twice yearly shows to speed up the used market.

Has anyone been to used boatshows, the usual vibrant Swanwick one looked poor on listings when I looked online this week, the number of used boats that Ancasta used to have was around a thousand, last time j looked it was barely 600.
 
Found the fairline team today to be very accommodating, very helpful.I was told by an old ( he won't like me saying that) fairline "expert" that the sales figures were in the high teens for the boat show and very good for Cannes, best they have ever had!
I have to congratulate the turn around in the company in such a short space of time.
Had chat with a broker and he said they struggled for decent broakarage boats.

Oh I thought you had listed with Ancasta and Derek. ? Must be another one.

I've binned the idea to buy a 200k plus boat for at least a year. New venture on the Horizon not associated with the industry.

High teens on top of their most successful Cannes ever would be very good news indeed considering their business plan is around 70 boats next year.
 
I do not wish to put downer on this thread but I have to say my experience is some what different.
Having bought a 3 year old Fairline and requiring some additional items and fittings etc had no joy from the factory at all!
I did meet the production head at the British boat show and was promised that they would help and even do a crew cabin fit out and make us a unit as well.
I heard no more and after contacting them was politely told they would contact me and never did!
Would I buy a new Fairline no way I think the service has been very poor and speaking with the sales people they all agreed the factory was impossible to deal with and instead source from the suppliers direct.
