Re: ah well.

whoops yes, my fault, do please forgive me for not making myself clear: To avoid the drowning thing, if i am off the french coast, then it will be aboard a boat, and I won't be treading water. I also didn't quite explain that the boat will be floating, on the sea (not in mid-air). Also, when i said "off the french coast, i failed to say on the seaward side: neither i nor the boat will be in a field some miles inland for example, where it would still technically be "off" the french coast.

Re: ah well.

Well, I can certainly forsee a situation such as the one you described earlier, where the boat is sveral miles off the French coast on the 'inland' side, but on a low loader, being transported south for August. So thanks for the clarification.

When do you (for the avoidance of doubt, you personally and/or the boat) depart for sunnier climes? Where will the boat be based in July? From when? Do you leave the keys under the mat, and is the drinks cabinet full?

Re: ah well.

i was planning to head westwards asap from 17th, doubtless calling in at Guernsey, primarily to pay my respects to the esteemed Depsol (oh, and i may get some cheap fuel too)

drinkswise, i think the cabinet was full for a a short time two years ago, but shortly after it wasn't quite full. But there are loads of drinks cabinets and quite a few drink storage chests and then there's the hold too. There are some keys near the entrance to Cannes port, in about 20 m of water.

Re: ah well.

well, as suggested earlier, I planned to crane out and ship it for the journey north, perhaps gib-soton which saves VAT, and then drivit back south in july and august.

I am beginning to see why last years trip arrangements fell apart :)

Re: ah well.

indeed. If this year's weather turns out to be anything like last, you'll still be in the CIs in September, waiting for a window. We had three of last year's trip trapped less than 10 miles apart for a week by the weather...

Re: ah well.

Let me know I am not going far if any where and will be able to sort out inexpensive fuel.

By then kids will be 4 and 5 - This sounds great if I can get my boat sorted by then - though it sounds like everyone's pretty familier with each other, did you intend this just for existing group of freinds?

We didn't start out as an existing group of friends, that happened later.
All welcome! (bring your own supersoaker)

Like Col said, we only met up last year, or in a couple of cases the year before. All welcome. Bring booze, a supersoaker and a fast tender, if you think you're good enough...
