I didn't see anyone hit Black Rock, but the atmosphere at beach and anchored off was superb, and the Reds were just exceptional. One of the best free shows you can get.

Was a yacht called either China or Shiner 27 ft hit about an hour before LW. Had VHF on for background from first contact to lifeboat launch was 10 to 15 mins and interesting to listen to traffic

At 13:01 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 27ft Yacht Shinner with six people on board which had put out a Pan Pan broadcast reporting that it was aground on Black Rock at the entrance to Falmouth Harbour. The Inshore Lifeboat was also launched at 13:10 to provide additional support.
The Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 13:04 and headed out of the harbour arriving on scene at Black Rock at 13:15. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from its slipway at 13:13 and arrived on scene at 13:18. The All Weather Lifeboat passed a tow line to the yacht while the Inshore Lifeboat put a lifeboat crew member on board the yacht to assist. The yacht was pulled clear of the rocks at 13:22 and once it was confirmed that there was no water ingress and that the yachts engine was operating correctly at 13:28 the tow was dropped and the All Weather Lifeboat was released to return to its station while the Inshore Lifeboat escorted the yacht back into the inner harbour.
The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 13:44. The lifeboat was then refuelled and was ready for service by 13:55.
The yacht had been sailing close to Black Rock when it went slightly to close to the reef and ran aground.

The yacht crossed just ahead of me and I remarked that he was too close to Black Rock. Then we watched as it hit the reef. You could hear the bang and the whole boat shook. I hope he gets his keel bolts checked.

It was an awesome display, not even spoiled by my nearly soiling myself as one came over Pendennis Point at a couple of hundred feet.

But it's magnetic
. I was watching the start of some ocean race or other (probably AZAB) many years ago. Black Rock was an outer distance mark for the start line. With 10 minutes to go one of the singlehanded competitors ran straight into it. 10 minutes later on the start gun, another competitor fetched up alongside the first. Both got off OK and completed the racePhillM

Not all of them though in this case. I'm sure I read that Pendennis made a very substantial contribution to cover the cost.
