Fairline Targa 63GTO

Not being critical at all just asking why it's at the bottom performance wise of the crop of sexy 60/65 fter sports cruisers .

Fairline have never built very fast boats and apart from their recent troubles doesn't seem to have done them much harm. And as the MD has been selling boats in the Med for the past 20 years one would assume they've done their market research and don't "feel the need for speed". Interestingly, when I look at the S/S web site, all their big / fast Pred's seem to have been discontinued and I don't believe Princess make terribly fast boats either.

Blurb says "Deep V " --- I ,d like a number on that ,deadrise is the industry standard .

I will say 12-15 closing deadrise territory. So its no real deep Vee it is a medium Vee.
But we have been hearing the Deep-Vee world many times.

Anyways some boats even with high cruising speeds have 15 closing deadrise or whereabouts. The old Pershing 54 was around that nos, and it is still considered one of the fastest and most comfortable boats in its size. The 56 is 17.
Most Fairlines with the exception of the 37 (21) where 17-18 and actually one of the best Bernard Olesinski hull was the 15 (closing deadrise) he use on the old Fairline 50 and 43.
New Princess Olesinski hull closes at 12-15 degrees.
Ferretti's the same 17,18, 15 etc

Obviously they will never run with an Itama , Otam, Magnum etc in rough seas but they are not designed to do so.

Managed 43 knots with 6 up on my T34 passing Peniscola, nicely trimmed, with flat sea state and clean bottom once, well above book, very impressed....!

I imagine Kad300 285hp for this. Not the most fast 43T as we have a 1997 in Malta re-powered by D6-350 which manages 48 knots.
But the hull IMO is not made for this as even in flat seas the boat bounces above 40 knots. Fair enough it was never out with those engines from OM.

Thanks, that's obviously the optimum deadrise then

Deadrise on the SC35 is 20' at the stern. but I'm sure someone from Italy will chip in with why this is no good :p

So the photos of the 63 GTO on social media. Thats a very nice looking boat indeed.

The SC35 had a Micheal Peters designed hull, which is one of the best Deep Vee (no step) designers around. The other in my book would be Brunello Acampora from Italy.
When I saw this video I thought it rode high https://youtu.be/yfaePvECQDE but then I saw one locally and it was running much leaner.

Marina shots are La Napoule , my home port just across the bay .
There's a lot of dealer HQ ,s inc our big 3 + much more ( was a Sealine office for a short while too )
It's not unusual to hide new releases .I see loads of punter stuff being pdi -ed ---- err and repaired shortly after !

Umm, no it doesn't. Ocke Mannerfelt did the hull - I have the launch brochure somewhere.

Back to the 63GTO, it does look good.
It's like a more "respectable" Predator that you would be happy to take your family on, rather than a boat for your, errm, "nieces".

Going to be controversial for a second but unless I was really looking for this on social media, forums etc, I might have missed it. Ok... there was a pic last year at Southampton on the FL stand.

I'm an owner of its predecessor so shouldn't someone have said to me along the way that "here's the new model", "what do you think/do you want one, wanna see a spec/pics etc*" - delete as appropriate? If I buy Pork/BMW/Merc, they hound me for the latest stuff. I know you can't compare car markets to boat markets (already done via M. le Henry) however there are 2nd markets for the stuff we're playing with and any boat builder coming out with a decent channel should be able to do this.

So, I'm fed up with no comms. Could have got tix to Cannes I'm sure. Have tix to Soton. Can sort all of that incl travel but what about "hey, how are you?". I don't need the free beer, just need to be informed now and again without searching. Some will call it spam but I can consume lots of emails per day before brekkie without reading lots of papers/periodicals. I am able to filter - that's what we have to do in this world.

I'm very happy with my choices and maybe I consume info differently but with one of the last hull numbers of the T62 GT, wouldn't you have called me? (If you could find me - not that difficult..)

Genuinely interested, not provoking. Princess are much better at this game via BCU and Princess directly.

This launch had been well publisized for over a year in the paper press, boat shows, socials, etc. Not to mention on Fairlines own website.

The old Fairline dealership network were not obliged to share mailing lists with Fairline (the dealer agreements with new Fairline addressed this). And even where details were captured for purposes such as warranty they cannot be reused for marketing purposes (that's Data Protection law). Obviously boats.co.uk were the main suppliers of Fairlines for many years and they are highly unlikely to share customer lists with Fairline. However, if you bought your boat through Fairline North Mallorca for example you would have had regular mailings giving you details of new launches.

Believe me, Fairline would love to talk to existing owners. All you need to do is spend 5 seconds signing up for news on fairline.com or speak to your local dealer. Or go to one of the major boat show, there's usually a member of the senior management team there and they love talking about their boats.

Pete, I did register - last year at Southampton. My post wasn't that scathing and was "genuinely interested, not provoking". I get data protection etc. Guess what - I'm one of the biggest flag wavers around for FL - I've bought 3 now... They also mail drop the back of my boat at CD regularly. I'm not hiding... The video on FB is crap and I have to go looking for info apart from pics in mags. Fellow owners were waiting for this one (3x at CD) but not a lot of comms.

Sorry, didn't mean to press any buttons but if you read my original post again, there's no animosity there - purely a belief that as a brand flag waver, people aren't that difficult to find when you're flogging a £1m+ boat.

Likewise, I wasn't trying to have a pop at you!

If you did register at Southampton then something has clearly failed. Fairlines marketing director will be following this thread and I hope he will investigate, after all it must be a lot easier to sell to existing customers who love the brand than new ones.

Totally agree. Hopefully they can fix that. Outbound marketing is a tough game. Given the (answered) phone calls to my mobile post Southampton last year, something obviously got lost. You also have my mobile number on a PM re CD prices etc from last year - call me anytime, internet is cr4p.

Cheers

Mat
