This will be old news to some of you that received MBY earlier in the week, but today Fairline were pleased to release the first rendering and details of the Targa 62.

Targa%2062%20GTO%20Profile%20on%20Water%20-%20July16_zpsb9hjj2dn.png

This is the first ground up design that new Fairline have commissioned with Mancini responsible for the design and Vripack the naval architecture. You can read the full press release here http://www.fairline.com/en/news/fairline-unveils-its-first-mancini-design. To my eyes, the design is bang up to date and you can definitely identify it as a Fairline. Fairline say that the hull shape has been designed for maximum volume (to keep Henry happy) so it will be interesting to see how this looks and pans out.

What’s also interesting from the press release is where Fairline are pitching the boat to focus on “complete flexibility of layout” and a multitude of options.

This will be another resin infused boat and built with Fairline’s traditional monocoque construction.

Looks very nice indeed, but it would be worrying if she wouldn't, on a rendering... :D

As an aside, I half expected them to come out with a f/b replacement for the glorious Sq58, before focusing on the Targa line.
But after having said in another thread that boatbuilders need much more than our armchair success strategies to effectively turnaround (if at all possible!), I guess I'd better keep my big mouth shut...! :o

Thanks Pete - that looks very nice indeed and I'm intrigued by the idea that the whole glass patio door motors down into the floor. One slight worry that comes to my mind is that this sector of the market is possibly migrating to sports bridge, but I'm not really sure about that.
I agree with Mapism - a new Sq58 would be very handy. Also, do you have any info on their thoughts on building an all new boat in the 80 foot zone?

There are other models in the pipeline but I can't discuss them (it was a shame you couldn't join us for the factory visit). But if you read the Russell Currie interview in this month's MBY https://twitter.com/Fairline_SM/status/751044105413820417) you'll see that they are looking at ways of overcoming the historical 78ft logistical issue. I know that Russell, Andrew and Miles wanted to share their plans with you as they value your feedback and obviously your custom. I thought they'd been in touch?

Yep they have been in touch and invited me to take a look at some ideas they have. I've been crazy busy for a while and not found a half day to go up to oundle but will get around to it soonish. Ball in my court. The 62 certainly whets appetite.

You should do that, particularly in the knowledge that they listen to customers and shape the designs accordingly. And picking up on a comment that MapisM made in my last new model thread, what's under the water can be just as interesting, if not more so, than above.

Anywsy, not only do I think you'll find a visit interesting but I'll also be interested in your observations of how things have changed since M2 was built.

So we know the next big boat will have an internal staircase then :)

I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes out of the factory in the next 12 to 18 months. The reality is Fairline hadn't really produced a new model for ages and the competition was streaking off into the distance. Let's see what a clean sheet of paper, line in the sand and no need to raid the parts bin produces.

The currency situation must make things easier for the likes of Fairline, Princess and Sunseeker looking to export providing they can find buyers.

H :)

Actually moving from stanchions Sunseeker to no stanchions Itama had been thus far a smooth transition .
Erh for the crew -not me  Helming .
No seriously it's worked out well in practice -not suggesting walking on burning coal -fire walking etc , but sans stations is ok in practice , on a boat .

GTO - yup looks great -will attract punters at boat shows -ok with "curb appeal " or pontoon appeal at shows , in mags .
62 a good starter for 10 :) profitable size near ish to base of the new FL buyers pyramid @£1m ish -do able in -world wide market .

Just one thing in critique why the "o" -what's that all about ? Presume Omologato - If not what ?
It's not like they build em -during the week - race em on Sunday and sell on Monday , like a well known Italian sports car maker from Moderna .Is it ?
Have not seem FL taking part in any boat races with a works boats and selling a punter edition to fund it or comply with the race rules ,to enter ?
Are they expepecting for " GTO " residues to buck the used boat trend ?
Somebody Petem enlighten me ps

Good question P, I was going to wind you up and pretend they were building a gas turbine version for a competition race series but that would be cruel. In which case Omologato would be appropriate!

But the real reason is thus....

Targa GT = Patio doors (enclosed cockpit)
Targa Open = Open deck (just canvas)
Targa GTO = A hybrid GT where the cockpit entirely opens up by way of the sliding / disappearing patio doors

And of course it sounds sexy too / tongue in cheek :)!

Arh -thx Petem - and good luck to them -new F/l ---- incase they are "listening in "
Take a leaf out of Itama book -- or any Italian sports boat Pershing ,Otam , Magusta etc
1- option sans sets stantions ( st spec inc for Brits in the Solent -ok got that )
2- option FO engine s spec - launch with st spec ,then give FO Spec
My boat launched (2001-2004 ) with Cat 425 , or Volvo penta 480's and FO spec MAN 700 ,s -only one vp 480s made rest (at a price) -FO - 700 ,s In a 48 ftr - your modern day T 47 has only vp 575 - should have option of MAN 800/900 today
You can not set an Italian designer on to shape it -then scrimp on the HP ----- go for it put new F/L on the map

So GTO 62 ball park -looking at 1100-1200 hp standard spec at intro £ . But let em have ( @ at a price ) some 1550 -1800 hp,s MAN or MTU,s
Has to GO as well as look to be successfull -with a GTO name - best of luck

I nearly asked FL if the boat could be spec'd without stanchions but I suspect that the hull has a moulding detail where the bases fit. I guess a compromise would to find a way of blanking these off in an attractive way so that stanchions could be added at a later date.

100% agree about a FO engine option! Shall I put your name down for one :)?

I guess GTO equals Gran Turismo Open for its flexibility of vanishing patio doors.

Looks a nice design, and if priced right, a bit less to Princess V62 S with similar quality should do well.

Portofino I catched a 42 in South Tirennian sea last week named Oggi around Eolian Islands and I remembered about you.

Anyways the season is full on in the region ;)
