Hi anyone out there owned one of these, im looking at circa 2002 onwards, flybridge version not the old style phantom 43ac ( which is a fantastic boat)

Im looking for reports on problems with build, mpg with volvo 480hp engine fuel consumption, cruise speed at related rpm etc( you can never believe the brouchure!)

I have worked on a few so know the boats well at rest but not as a sea boat so any input please from owners.

Thanks.

Hi

My parents currently own a 43 phantom, have done for about 3-4 years now.

To my knowledge i cannot think of anything that has majorly gone wrong, needed placing or fixing during our ownership. Just with any boat, as its get older, more is needed to be done to keep it up together.
With regards to build quality, i cant fault it, being a Fairline i feel it has slightly better build quality than other marques.

I can say it is a fabulous boat and they are very pleased with it, she can easily reach 30kts top end with a clean hull and is a capable sea boat. We've been over the channel a few times etc. She does ride slightly bow high, so we do use a little tab, but that could be due to the crane and tender on the platform. She is also very easy to manoeuvre in close quarters.

With regards to Mpg I’m not quite sure on the exact figure....i don’t pay for the fuel! but i can find out for you.
Let me know if you have any specific questions?

She is actually on the market, but is a 2001 so just outside your age range.

Hi thanks for your input, where is it lying, we may have already looked at it, 2002 is not set in stone if the price was right, Thanks.

I used to take care for a 43 Phantom from 2003 new up to 2005. Faboulous boat and cannot fault her. She was a super improvement on the old 42 Phantom in the quality department (not only inside, but also the hidden areas), and was build to a high standard, in this size.
Low on weight and new with 2 x 480hp Volvo she toppped 38 knots.
Good sea boat too quite dry, altough she does run a bit too much bow high for my tastes. Have done Force 4 head seas, 4 feet waves and she did not slam much in these waters at low twenties cruise.

H PYB thanks for your input, ive looked after 2 phantom 46s but not a43 other than engine service.

38knots????? I can see that, ive actually had top speeds refered that its actually a slower boat top and than the 46 which is strange as its about 2/3 tons lighter with the same hp.

Sadly looks like my deal has fallen through, which poses a question.

The buyer has placed a small deposit, he has at this time cancelled the survey which was tomorrow, he has no grounds not to proceed on the purchase, no reason to reject the boat other than as he's stated personal circumstances, he has not said if he wants to arrange another survey date, maybe he said next year if I don't sell to someone else.

Am I allowed to sell to another party while his deposit is held by my broker, he said sell to another as he cannot give a date when or if he wants the boat, but should I refund his deposit as he has pulled out with no grounds to reject the boat, I am a fair man but both myself and the broker has put time into preparing the boat for survey and sea trial etc, I and the wife spent all last weekend emptying the boat off for the survey and trial as the buyer suggested a quick turn around on the deal should the survey be satisfactory, he wanted to take possession quickly, all very disappointing where do I go now? He sounded genuine, but I'm not sure now in law I would say I'm not allowed to sell as we have his deposit but if he is not going to proceed quickly how long if at all should I wait for him to arrange his next survey date, surely the deal cannot be left open/ in limbo for me.

What does the panel think?

can you not simply test the water and get the broker to send him a notification that as the deal was pulled by the buyer his deposit is forfeited and the purchase is off? he may just accept it without contesting

I fill for your loss and disappointment Paul. I asked a broker this same question and his reply was total funds to be paid within 30 days of deposit unless agreed by you in writing

Thanks for replies, in this climate it seems very few people buying motor boats at my level so I have treated every customer with total respect, this is the third time waster now and to be very honest my patience is running out, I have already done a sea trial for someone who said they didn't want a survey but wanted to do a deal on the day, then a European buyer who turned out hadn't got the cash, now this man who has just changed his mind.

Yes I think contact is needed, with a timescale attached to complete or forfeit his deposit, you cant just leave a deposit on a car and want it back because you found a cheaper one down he road, he has in my eyes have to prove the boat is not fit for purpose by means of a survey which will cost the thick end of a thousand pounds, he can then decide it's not for him though the contract and price agreed already states that I the seller is at rock bottom price, his survey was for his own satisfaction that the hull and engines are sound, and I agreed there was not a penny more off after survey, he could if defects were found with hull or engines walk away, so I see it unless he has the boat surveyed, or carries on with the purchase there are doubts over his deposit, I'd say he has 30 days from when he left the deposit to conclude the sale or reject the boat after survey.

Really sorry to hear it has all fallen through Paul. Must be very demoralising - lets hope a genuine buyer comes along soon. Someone somewhere will want your boat.

Just spoken to my broker, the buyer has not pulled out or asked for his deposit back, he needs time to sort out his problems and will get back to us hopefully with a date for survey, at least he still wants the boat.

odd,

in Greece if you give a deposit and later on pull out, you simply loose the deposit. That's the actual point of giving a deposit tbh...
If you could just pull out and get it all back, defies the reason of giving it in the first place.

anyway, good luck hope he comes back soon!
