Hi,
I am missing some rpms and top speed compared to the testdrive I read from a magazine mbm I believe.
They reached 32,5knots and 2700rpms. ( Tamd 74P´s)I only get 2450/2500rpms and 28knots. I know there can be several reasons for this but would like to know if this boat was available with multiple propeller options as new?
According to the documents on the boat mine are still with same specs as new. Just would like to make sure it`s not the propellers which are slowing me down.
The hull is clean, no tidal streams in Finland, turbos checked and injectors overhauled last winter.
Any 43 owners can help with propeller specs?

Hi I have just sold my Phantom 43, from memory she has 24/33.5 props but you have to check your gearbox ratio.

Your engines should pull 2600 rpm, the TAMD 74p which I had pulls 2650 according to the Ecu, I still got 29 knots on sea trial with a dirty bottom so you have something not quite right if your revs are that low.

Are you on twin disc or ZF 280 gearboxes?

Thanks for answering Volvopaul, appreciate it. At the moment I am working offshore West of Shetland, but will check the gearbox ratio and gearbox type first thing when I get back home. Unless I can get someone to check it for me.

All the boat tests are usually carried out with tiny amounts of fuel and water aboard no tools or spares and suspicion that only anorexic crew are choosen.
Also anything less than a flat calm will knock the edge off top speed.
Add a few refeshments, some clothing.safety gear and the bits of stuff that invariably appear over time and weight will mount up alarmingly.

Where is it moored? Just bought recently?

Yes of course. It`s just that I got my results with 40% of fuel, empty FW tank, bottom just painted two men onboard and almost no extra gear on board. That`s why it makes me wonder.

The boat is located in Finland. Bought it last year but didn`t have a chance to drive it very much last summer. If my memory serves me correct my props are also 24x33,5, but need to doublecheck that.

I can confirm that props are 24/33,5 and got reply from Fairline that this was also the only option for this boat. Gearboxes are twindisc model MG 507 ( 5A )with ratio 1.77.
I have local volvo penta dealer to hook up the engines to a tester when I get back home in the beggining of July. At least then I know that boost pressure and intake air values are withing limits.

Does not air temperature also affect output on high performance diesel engines.
Cold air more dense etc .?

Not sure where you are coming from................

Pretty much industry standard that max Delta T turbine inlet Vs outside ambient temperate should me no more than 17 Degrees C at rated speed/load.

As this is a production vessel I would expect the above to be easily met.

I would be asking when CAC was last properly serviced.

Yes it does. I believe if intake cooler is partly blocked/dirty intake air is too warm and most likely ecu will protect the engine by reducing power. In my car this is done by pulling timing, but not sure how it`s done in these engines.

Easy, ecu backs governor off = less fuel. Simple engine with inline pump electronic governor control, fixed timing .

I've just sold my P43 , great boat.
