Any views or knowledge of this boat?

I looked at it yesterday, The boat had a small fire and smoke damage, its not been repaired to a good standard

Do people know the boat?

I had a sea trial and engines seem ok...

the price is low and the boat is unloved at the moment is it worth taking on and putting right?

It’s been around for ages , I knew about i5 some time ago.
Smoke damage is something you can never get rid of, could have been a total loss.
I’d get the history before you go any further.

Tom, seem to remember a company having a bit of "previous" regards boats being sold on after assorted mishaps.
Involved a large Sealine ? which was on the market for ages as the initial optimistic asking price slowly declined.
Not sure if it was hull or engines which were the only items which were thought worth salving.?
Bit of history always worth having.
Couple of VP engines up for sale a year or two ago and I expressed an interest on the forum.
Received PM from forumite with first hand knowledge that the engines (or a a pair remarkably similar in the same area ) were almost certainly removed from a sunken boat.

I thought you'd found and were buying a boat in Valencia and were shipping it home? Change of plans?

I've bought a boat (see my Andiamo thread)! Boat purchased in the UK, already moved to Sant Carles and expect to move to Palma next year.

I'm just curious about this boat having looked at Phantom 40's myself. If the FIRE damage was very local / superficial and we're only talking about SMOKE damage then surely there's no reason to write this boat off.

If the soft furnishings have been replaced, then where is the residual smell coming from? Is it coming from the woodwork (is lacquer sufficiently porous to absorb the smell?) or are there further soft furnishings / PVC panelling that needs to be replaced? And regarding the poorly replaced woodwork, can it be redone properly and what would the cost be?

I guess that boat in A1 condition would sell for £180-190k so this boat is quite cheap. Of course it may continue to be blighted if the boat is kept in the UK and has poor repairs. However, get rid of the smell, replace the knackered woodwork and sell it in Spain and you lose the effect of the depressed smoke damage valuation.

When I had quotes to transport our boat down to the Med, an option was SW corner of France to Le Havre. That would have bought the cost down to €4k or so. Might be a compromise if you don't fancy Biscay.

Thanks Pete

could be an option, the issue is time really since I would love to do the journey hugging the coast but Swmbo does not want me away for too long, one option is for her to give up job and join me?

Looks like we'll have our usual weather problems tomorrow!
Not sure if we'll fit in with the RCC, looking at your heroic voyage, navigating the upper reaches of the Medway. :o

situation normal here at OG Towers ...one set of props on the boat,,,the other at the menders awaiting collection.

Marina Queens.

Holland and France on the plotters for next year and of course all the usual stuff, Thames, Ramsgate,Burnham and up the East coast. Also the merest possibilty of a jaunt up Faversham Creek if we can find enough mooring for half a dozen boats or more .

Or will your shore power lead on that new "43" only stretch from Cuxton to Stangate as normal :)

Re: :)

Tsh and tush.....we'll be our usual selves and set forth boldly, following the track drawn in crayon on the "British Coastline" tea towel.
Seriously though, we tend to set off on our own and not be tied into schedules etc, might be fun to try something different.
Once we're sorted I'll pop round and you can see if I measure up to the clubs rigorous standards, I think I'm old enough now so that should help...although I don't possess a blazer or white (elasticated) slacks yet.
