Fairline Fury 1980 engines

Hi,
I'm looking for advice about the conversion to diesel of two AQ 140 petrol engines (Volvo) on 280 legs in a Failine Fury 28 . The hull shape is planing and concerns have been expressed about the outcome if I instal two Ford FSD diesels at 2 X 75hp. They may be noisey ;they may not make 20 Knots . THey may not be powerfull enough to plan;Does anyone have experience of this conversion?

150 horse rather than 280 horses and probably extra weight, be very surprised if you will get anywhere near planing speed, you'll use most of your fuel trying to get over the hump.

Try speaking to Lancing Marine, they'll have a better idea.
 
Tico (a user) has done something like this to his Sunfury. He might be able to help.

Yes , I know all about it!!!!!!
The Fury hull is the\same as the sunfury, so all i went thru should be pretty much the same.
1. You will need twin FSDTI's at 140 hp each from Mike Bellamy at Lancing Marine to get the power you need.
2. The FSDTI is a little bit heavier that the Volvo AQ171's that I ripped out so the transom sits about 1-2" lower in the water.
3. You will need different sumps if you have transverse engine bearer in the hull.
4. Steering, sorry, you lose the power steering because the turbos would get in the way. I made up some fairly complex bracketry to re mount the fixed part of the steering cable to one of the longitudinal stringers and then a cranked arm to run under te turbos to connect the outdrives.
5. Exhausts have to be run thru the transom and the volvo exhausts capped. This requires some fiddly work with the routing and exhaust elbows.
6. Raw water and fuel systems have to be re-run and is straightforward but again a bit fiddly.
7. Because the diesels have more torque but fewer revs the props will need changing. Not sure what ratio you have in 280 o/ds but I had 2.15:1 in by 290 legs. I think that they will be just about on their torque limit. Changing ratios is horrendeously expensive (£1200 parts only for each leg). as such I have left mine the same and am trying 14"x21" long hub props from Steel Developments. Will let you know how i get on.
8. Ring Mike Bellamy at lancing, he is very helpful and having been thru the grief with me will know more about the details of the engine parts.

BTW my friendly boatyard, having quoted me a fixed price for the job, then got cold feet and I said that they definately wouln't fit.... Bo***cks , They do!!!

Have one to, Fairline Holiday, fitted wth a Lancing Marine Ford FSD 75 Hp.
is yours the same, if so I which prop size do you use and what gearing is the outdrive plus what speed will she do.
