Hi Kevin…..it was a long time ago…..and the boat was only around 6 years old when I bought it.Hi corona , iam in the middle of looking at a 1974 vixen, are these a reliable boat![]()
Thank you for replying , I think I.ll take a chance its a lovely wee tidy boat , all this modern stuff can be alot of hassle also .Hi Kevin…..it was a long time ago…..and the boat was only around 6 years old when I bought it.
But as a boat, I remember it was a great little boat and very well built.
It did tendency to ‘wander’ at very slow speeds.
Mine had a Volvo AQ140 (?) engine and a 270 drive…….both very reliable at the time.
Of course as others on the forum say…a lot depends on maintenance over the years, and the availability of replacement parts!
On the ‘positive’ side:
There’s no fancy electronics or ECU’s.
The engine was a ‘Marinised’ Volvo car engine.
From the time when car engines were designed to be reconditioned, not just thrown away!
The hull and superstructure were very well built.
Not sure about parts availability for the outdrive….but there’s lots of more informed people on the forum for this!
