Hi All,

I feel like I have waited long enough for a thread to start that just hasn't, so here goes.

I'm not just a boat owner and lover, but thanks to the mag a complete fanatic (as I am sure many of you are also).

This is why I have to ask if anyone else out there looked at the new Fairline 53GT with even a just little bit of a critical eye?

that's all ill say for now in case I'm in a minority with my own opinions, but something is up on this model and no one seems to want to talk about it...

Jack's video was quite fair about the good points - good turn of speed and quiet engines and the not so good - the huge step in the saloon and the very low headroom in the master cabin.

What we really need is those 3d cut-out diagrams that used to be published in the magazines. I think that would help to explain the challenge that designers have in creating headroom and preventing steps.

I agree, But jack left out an absurdly dangerous engine access ladder situation, and I think you cant just dismiss the standing headroom issue in the master cabin on a boat that has a price comparison with other brands flybridge 3 cabin boats.

I have to say my opinion is bolstered somewhat by a certain dealer trash talking the competition, and the whole process of viewing the boat turned into some kind "Cheating on my wife with the neighbour" type situation.

I just had some really high hopes for that model which I have been following from its inception, and no amount of marble surfaces will convince me its worth a million.

I wasn't at the show so can't comment about the engine access other than to say some of these things can be issues with the first boat off the line and are fixed before production. Regarding standing room, it doesn't matter what the thing costs, you cannot cheat the laws of physics. People who want more room are more likely to be buying flybridges I would think. I hate car analogies but would anyone view a 911 and complain that they can't get three adults and their luggage in the back (perhaps HenryF can answer that one)?

When you say trash talking the competition, is that people trashing Fairline or the other way round?

Yep, a million quid is a lot of money for a boat by anyone's standard.

I didn't see the engine room - what was wrong with the ladder?

Name and shame the dealer and what they said.

As tempting as it is to name and shame the dealer, especially in this instance where apparently everything that is "wrong" with my boat will miraculously disappear on this new model, I will say that it was the dealer trash talking his direct brand competition, which I though was ironic, seeing as he will at some point change brands himself.

Having done 5 hospitalilties this year (all lovely), this one was a horrendous experience in the making before id even seen the boat!

Princess V48 master cabin has much better head room in a smaller boat, I'm 6' 4" and was just touching ceiling in some areas of V48 master.

On the 53 the step in ceiling measured to neck level, if I had £1M to spend (I don't), it wouldn't be on the 53 with such a design compromise / error.

Looks like the area above the berth has the same restricted headroom though...

Not at all, found these from SIBS

This photo doesn't show the full extent of the ceiling step but you can see if I walk forward I'm going to headbutt ceiling.

I had standing head room to take this photo looking forward on starboard side.

Pinched from 360 tour on Princess website, plenty of headroom on port side and on starboard side where I was able to stand taking photo it's still fairly good.

I'm 6'4" and whilst I agree headroom is important I really liked the 53GT, the finish was stunning. Not sure is anyone went on the Sunseeker 86 but personally I preferred the 53GT.

Agree on the Princess comments above too!

I have to say that I also liked the 53. I am looking forward to seeing the Fly at LIBS, as I think this will be a fine vessel. The master cabin headroom is an issue, but no more so than some others in this class. Clearly, the equivalent Princess has more headroom, so it can be done, but I think Fairline was very focussed on the exterior styling, so ended up with a bit of a compromise.

I,ve read the article -seems ok -head room issue, not fussed really it would've looked hard at the the general fit /finish/quality -seems ok too
Thing is I,am not sure I could cross that mental barrier of spending £1m on that .

There in lies the problem I suspect

Or any new boat .i,am afraid I play a mental game of what else could I get for £xyz
Eg this -- http://www.yachtworld.co.uk/boats/2007/Pershing-56-HT-2561927/Italy#.Vg-1a2t5mK0
Spend the other 1/2 £M on some property and few €10, 000 on fuel or minor refurb and let the weather /sun -take its toll ,
Missing out on the £1/2 depreciation in 2-4 years !
Plenty of headroom and no steps here too .-timeless shape /style -the Pershing -not exposed to "today's whim "
All IMHO

You'd have to say the Princess above is a far better looking effort in the master cabin. Have to see both in the flesh though. Another thing I didn't like on the video of the 53GT was the flappy canvas roof .... is the Princess the same? Personally I'd go for something with a sliding hardtop. .......... (come to think of it ... I just have!)
