I bought a fairline 33 targa with 2x 200hp diesels. (1990). The boat is in perfect condition.
Is it save to go on the sea with this boat? I'm planning to go to Bretagne this summer (from Holland). I already sail for more then 20 years, but have not much experience on sea. I'm taking a course this januari.
With what weather conditions is it ok to still go on sea? (4 beaufort?)

Hi.

Your targa 33 is fine to go to sea, provided you have safety gear of course.

For the wind: the DIRECTION (north south, etc) of the wind is important for a planing powerboat, more important than than a sailing yacht.

For a smooth trip, perhaps try not to go against the wind perhaps more than F3 to start.

So, from Holland to Bretagne: wait for any calm, or a wind up to F4 (for the first trip) with any EAST (such as NNE, NE, E, SE, SSE or S) and go to all the way to Bretagne in the west as quickly as possible. Then slowly come back to Holland: the wind is normally SW in the English Channel (Manche).

I WORKED FOR FAIRLINE FOR 33 YEARS AND YES YOUR TARGA 33 IS SAFE TO USE ON THE SEA, HAS A VERY STRONG HULL AND IS A GOOD SEA BOAT, GOOD UPTO A FORCE 4TO 5. BUT ONLY YOU KNOW WHAT CONDITION YOU FEEL SAFE IN.
