Probably heading for Fair Isle and than Lerwick and Out skerries (?) in a week or two (from Norway). Is Fair isle/out skerries crowded places or normaly quiet ? Understand there is a place to have a meal in fair isle. Recomended ? What about the tide in "the hole"/east shetland . Is it north/westbound with rising tide ?

Welcome to he forum, and fair winds. Lerwick can become crowded when special events are on; but in my limited experience Fair Isle and Out Skerries not crowded. Plenty of berthing room at Fair Isle, but don't know about eating.

Most of the Northern Isles are quiet, in fair weather.

Fair Isle and Shetland are beautiful, you might be able to persuade the Bird Observatory to do a meal for you but the rule is you should be self sufficient. Small shop about 3/4 mile south of the N Haven harbour sells routine stuff and accepts mail for posting.

Might be there myself in 2 weeks.

Have a good time.

Went into Fair Isle last summer on the way to Shetlands. Plenty of room in the small harbour, and had a meal (and a beer) at the bird observatory. Well worth a visit.
Found Lerwick fairly busy, but OK; Scalloway was much quieter - I was the only yacht on the visitors' pontoon at the yacht club. Worth bearing in mind that the pontoon is fairly battered and the worse for wear.

Thanks for the response. Seems like fair winds are underway so we will probably set off the coming weekend .
