extreme tides this weekend

We went to Cowes yesterday, and round by the green overlooking the Solent the sea was over the promenade. Kids thought it was great as they were riding their scooters through it...

On our return to Chichester we arrived at full ebb, the Eastoke buoy was half submerged and dropping off the plane the GPS SOG dropped to 3 knots, the speed log was showing 11 - that's 8 knots of tide :eek: and it was 5-6 knots most of the way to HISC. A boat coming out as were going in had no effectve steerage and gave the Eastoke buoy a good side swipe.

I thought there would be trouble somewhere...
 
On Saturday afternoon, I saw bits of mud I hadn't seen before. I think all the water had gone to the Hamble for the day. :D
 
On Saturday evening at low tide there was a day boat on the mud at the bottom of the slipway at Mercury, all I can assume was the couple who were sitting in it in the dark had gone to get their car and misjudged how quick the water was going out, by the time they returned their boat was around 30ft from the bottom of the slipway sitting in the mud. Around 9.30pm there was enough water back again to just get the boat on their trailer... but they were having to walk through the mud to get it, and then jump in their car to manoeuvre the trailer to the lowest point of the slip...what a mess! I half expected to see their car get stuck... and would have stayed around to watch but SWMBO was getting cold so we left them to it!

I would just add, I would have helped, but they seemed to be having sooo much fun I didn't want to disturb. :)

Thanks for posting the pics - put my mind at rest cos I haven't had a chance to pop down for a few weeks to check the boat, but it appears to be just fine on your pics.
 
There was a Drascombe Rally there this weekend (a few in first pic!) and I was worried about going on it as I didn't think the tide would be high enough to get my boat back out before it was dark :(

would have been Ok until 3/4ish..thereafter you would have needed to wait until around 11pm to get one of those pulled out on a trailer... These pictures were taken around 1pm Sunday.
 
Were at Christchurch on the river there.
Normally its a waist high climb on the worse days.I have steps that get us 3/4 of the way and its an easy climb.
We had to clamber 6ft up from the fixed pontoon to get on the boat on saturday. The side deck was at head height!!!
I had to leave the boat to get something from the car in the evening and the pontoon was under water,10 meters to dry land, and my 73 year old mother in law was stranded.

I believe its high like this every year and again in November, but this was extreme.
