For a variety of reasons we've done next to no boating so far this season but most of those things competing for my weekend time have come to an end. We took the boat out a couple of weekends ago and she was sluggish due to weed even after cleaning up the props as best I could with the drives raised. it's not bad but needs sorting properly as I was down on revs and burning fuel unnecessarily. I also want to check the anodes, whilst they look ok peering down at them with the legs raised, I'd feel better giving them and the drives a proper check over, especially the bellow retaining clamps as neither have seen fresh air since July last year.

So, to my question,, does anyone know of a lift and hold outfit in the Solent area that is reasonably priced (if there is such a thing in the game of boating) and offers a service to lift, jet and then hold in the slings whilst I busy myself applying brush on antifoul to the drives, changing anodes, possibly changing below clamps and generally sprucing things up down below?

I know of one such place that I'll ask but would appreciate something to compare against

I'll then lift and block off proper out of season to do the usual maintenance

cheers G

Most places offer a lift & scrub deal (Lymington Yacht Haven £15 per metre + VAT I think) - maybe you could negotiate extra time in the slings or forklift but at this time of year I suspect they'd want to put you in a cradle instead.

If you can get under the road bridge at Haslar, Roger at Seaway Marine (023 9260 2722) is very helpful, best to phone or drop in to discuss what you have in mind once you have other quotes (maybe not email though). He has a slipway, tractor and a hydraulic trailer good for 13m boats. He did a lift, jetwash and relaunch for me a while ago for what I considered a good price and no time-pressure either, which was great.
I've heard the Haslar Sealift2 might be willing to leave you up overnight rather than go mad trying to do everything in the standard one hour. I haven't used them because of the whole outdrive oil and gaiter-change/ partial dismantling palaver that invariably ensues...

Had to lift Rafiki today, the dreaded worm on the stern gear. Cost at least 10 knots. Bottom still clean from the a/f in April. Ready for the trip to the Hamble starting in the morning.

Eastlands or foulkes will be the cheapest I suspect and you could have a session in the jolly sailor while you wait!
I was down to 10 knots (just) from a normal 16-18 knots WOT last weekend. Lift blast and re-launch on one tide was quoted to me today @ £4.50 / ft plus vat at Foulkes. However, I am going to try out my beaching legs and some elbow grease at Hamble scrubbing posts, and take the family out on the proceeds.

thanks for the advice guys, especially to Chris for your offer of help, appreciated mate. I think I am sorted after looking at the options, I'll book in to Kemps Quay as they ere very reasonable on price
