Thanks Mike-amazing how Man Maths can work! We are hoping to get over to Mallorca this late July/August…any recommendations, and any suggestions on how to try and get a berth booked for a couple of days at the Club de Mar….or are we dreaming??! So far we have always really struggled to get into any marina (particularly Ibiza)-either they won’t take advanced bookings or we phone the day before/that day only to find them always full!!! Whilst we love to anchor, a night or 2 ashore after a few days out on the hook is always nice.
Ibiza is a law unto itself in high season. Visitor berths are like hen's teeth, especially in Ibiza Town, and the cost is ridiculous. FWIW I always found Botafoch slightly easier to get into and the cost more palatable. Similarly the marina on Formentera always seemed slightly easier to get into as well. This was a few years ago but what I used to do at Botafoch was park on their visitor quay and slip whoever looked like the head marinero €50 to get me a berth. Sometimes worked, sometimes didnt. But generally Ibiza is a destination you have to reckon on doing some overnight anchoring if you go any time between June and Sept
I always found visitor berths a bit easier to get in Mallorca. I can't remember ever being turned away from places like Cala d'Or, Soller or Alcudia but again worth phoning to check beforehand. Soller (tram ride up to the old town) and Alcudia (v safe beach next to marina) are good kids destinations. I can't speak for Club de Mar because it was our home port for 4 1/2 seasons and I never had to book a visitor berth there but the office people always seemed friendly and accommodating. Dont forget there is also Marina Port de Mallorca and Club Nautico in Palma as well. The former is OK but a bit subject to swell from traffic in the harbour and the latter was a bit down at heel when I was in Mallorca (maybe its been tarted up now) but its location is great, just across the road from Palma old town where most of the restaurants and bars are located
I would say, if you want to be sure of getting berths, plan a trip and book the berths well in advance if you can. No harm in doing that because you can always cancel if you need to
