Hi another problem my exhaust is leaking at the joint from the manifold to the exhaust elbow (not the water injection point) At first i thought the exhaust was blocked somewhere but it seems to be ok. Im now thinking the exhaust elbow is the culprit. It was quite badly corroded at the joint. Ive tried to seal it but water and exhaust gasses or coming from this joint. What do you think a new exhaust elbow? or other problem

You will only know when you take the elbow off. Be prepared to see some corrosion/erosion on the mating faces.

Just checked our Exhaust

This shows what is left of the water injection elbow and the cooling water hose spigot.
The spigot casting snapped off as soon as I tried undoing the jubilee clip for the water hose. I could easily have leant on it and done the same.

One of the injection elbow bolts snapped clean off. Probably a good indication that this elbow had never been removed or inspected in 1000 hours or 24 years use.

The small exhaust injection elbow is nearly completely blocked by hard mixture of rust and carbon.

The larger exhaust elbow has no signs of developing pin holes and was clear of any carbon build up.

All Volvo techs will tell you that you should inspect your exhaust elbow at least every two years. It isn't a money making scam by them. It isn't listed in the owners manual . It might save your life!

You've done the right thing. Just for interest, who supplied the stainless elbow?
I have just bitten the bullet and sourced from Parts 4 Engines. They also gave an additional 5% discount. Replacing hose, hose clips, gaskets, 2 12mm bolts, injection & exhaust elbows.

I replaced mine three or four years ago with a stainless one. I now can't remember who the supplier was, but it was probably Parts4engines,, but I don't remember paying as much as they're now quoting (gulp).
