Anyone bought an exhaust elbow (threaded type) for the md7a recently, and were you able to reuse the threaded square flange which bolts onto the exhaust manifold, were you successful in getting the threaded flange off the old elbow without damaging the threads, or is it easier to get a new flange.

I normally just get new parts, but expecting extortionate prices, wether the flange would still be reuseable after 28 years.

the part in question will thread onto part 833998..

not a answer to your question exactly but ........................................

I 've got to replace my exhaust bend on a md7a as well , i found these people via a web search
http://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/volvo-penta-explodedview-7742080-26-13637.aspx

i think around £124 for the elbow and £114 for the flange is probably cheapa than keypart but not sure about shipping costs .

i'm going to remove mine in next week or to and take it to a fabricator and see if they can make one in stainless .

let me know how you get on .

Nigel .

Have the same problem, I am thinking about exhaust people, custom manifold pipe may be cheaper than marine fabricator.

Should we have a group purchase :D

Yep, replaced mine last summer, bought from keyparts, had no problem with the flange, just a bit of elbow grease, Although after the event was informed that it would have been cheaper to have one made up.

If it will bring the price down by 50% then it would be a worthwhile try, but i doubt it,
sounds like the mtbf time is up for these elbows, the engine has run well for the last ten years in my ownership and 18 years in the previous, so i cant complain about the durability of the original part, just hope the new ones arent reengineered to present day durabilty.

I welded up a replacement elbow myself from stainless and kept the flange which came off the remnants of the elbow after being heated a bit with a gas burner.
