I thoroughly agree. Join a library. I am a reading junkie and a long time ago I decided to economize by not buying any more books.
In all my sailing over the years, I have never been at a loss for a strategy because I have read so many different books. I now buy a book only if I have already read it, probably several times, and I want to have it for permanent reference.
If an aspiring cruiser must buy a book at once, I suggest The KISS guide to Sailing. It has all the basics.
And dont start a pregnancy.
