Just got back. Buildings and layout much better than Earls Court but seemed noisier somehow. Quite often some long queues at coffee shops/cafes.
Access - interesting. Took about an hour and a half to get there from St. Pancras this lunchtime via Northern Line to Bank & DLR to Westferry & DLR to Custom House. Unfortunately I wasn't concentrating on the navigation and got on wrong train at Westferry so had a tour of Canary Wharf as well. Hadn't seen the latter before - was very impressive and worth the extra 20-30 mins spent.
Return departure at 6 p.m. got to St Pancras at 6 50 p.m. via DLR to Canning Town, Jubilee Line to Green Park, Peccadillo to St. P.

Conclusions - French motor boats are much cheaper than equivalent sized Scandinavians. Oh, and I'm knackered/forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Purchases - HH radio (Icom M31) ; Imray Chart M8 - N. Sardegna.

coffee shops? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
surprised you didn't treat yourself to a new fishing rod - stateside tackle are excellent value and have some great old US gear that is no longer current - Penn Med Reefs are a good example.
enjoy your hand held...........

Just back too. Went for a quick visit, will go saturday for proper look. 20mins by cab from covent garden, at about 3.30pm, only £16, so if there is a group going it's hardly worth taking public transport, and at the Excel Taxi rank 2 chaps in bowler hats meet and greet arrivals!

Yes, hall(s) was huge. Twas my first time in Excel. Bort an Avon dinghy, lifejackets, and got something trinketty off the Fairline stand

Was surprised at haggle room. Crewsaver lifejackets were listed at £79 and we got some for £52 (ok, we bought a full set, but still decent discount)

There's a Leiths upstairs which is a proper sit down jobby with tapas but we could'nt get in because we didnt book but it looks quite swish. Otherwise there are loads of eateries in the central foyer but getting seats/tables is difficult
We arranged to meet friends opposite an entrance to one of the halls. All the entrances are numbered so meeting is easy

Re: Penn reels

Have I spent some in time in there over the years! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Don't know what it's like now though, been a good few years since I lived near there.

Proffered my comments on scuttlebut, except that I didn't mention the noise, I agree the background level seems high.
