Evinrude question

In the process of getting a new Etec 2 stroke for our club.

The boat will mainly be used for low speed safety boat stuff, towing, mark laying etc. but will be driven at speed when needed (within the rules of our dispensation, if the EA are reading this )

Should I be looking at fitting hotter plugs? Will surface gap plugs help?

Does anyone have an Evinrude tech support email address covering EMEA?

If that's concern before you buy it, why not get a 4 stroke? Do all the low speed stuff no bother and it will still go quick, you know.

And quieter and easier to sell again when time to part with it. Hotter plugs will make it harder to start in cold weather.

The owners manual should include advice about the spark plugs .. It should be available on line for downloading .

Hotter plugs might be an advantage for slow running if there is any tendency for the standard ones to foul.
Surface gap plugs were at one time suggested for high speed operation but they seem to have gone out of favour a bit now.

It would be agood idea to post your question on the Johnson/ Evinrude board of the iboats forums.

It's a very active forum and you should get some expert advice there.
BUT be more specific about the engine(s) you are considering. Give the HP at least

I have a 75, I wouldn't be inclined to start playing about under the engine cover without talking to a main dealer - you could run into warranty problems. They are very good engines but finely set up.

I wouldnt mess about under the hood either. Dont worry too much about your decision to buy the Etec, they are fantastic engines, just as quiet as 4 strokes. They have excellent power when needed.
