From the 1980s, but it ran again last week after a few years in the shed.
Can anyone recommend a U.K.-based supplier of spares please?

Many thanks. The first item on page 1 of 16 on Wills' website is the plastic cam follower that was designed to go brittle and break every few years. Not cheap, but if I buy one, I can remove my bodge.
And a whole range of spark plugs, but not quite the right one. I must read up on what I thought was a fairly simple component. How wrong I was! ?
if so avoid adjusting unless absolutely necessary if it's more than a few years old for the reason you have discovered. The adjusting screw is there so that you can adjust the throttle so that it just starts to open when the roller is in line with the mark on the cam. Thanks all, especially VicS for the diagram of the offending part! The adjusting screw seems to me to be an unnecessary refinement and hastens failure. Thanks for advice on spark plugs and Evotek. ?
