Up to 218 now but decided to gybe south again, it's all or nothing. Gained a few miles on the leading YBW boats but I reckon they are in trouble now.
Just waiting on the train now. I can hear it coming.
There's some 16 m/s wind up ahead of me at 3 am. I might have to set my alarm (aka bladder /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) so that I don't miss the fun. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Making 20knts myself now and looking at a nice consistent stream of strong winds for the next 24-36 hours. Already starting to make up places and while a bit north of the most southern boats i think i am in a good position to dodge the areas of light winds due in the 48-60 hour window and surf into Cape Town.
I'm very well North, as was expecting no internet access for 4 days, so couldn't take the chance of the variable winds predicted for the south, and went with the more consistent winds in the North as less likely to cause problems while I was away from the game, even though I accepted it was likely to cost me places to people going South and checking every few hours
I know what you mean, i am on Arran at the moment and had a hard time explaining to SWMBO why one of our bits of preciuos Ryan Air cabin baggage had to be the laptop /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Still, the guys north at least have predictable weather. i know what i am doing in the next 48 hours but after that wherever I go it looks a bit tricky.
you might have the last laugh yet.
Good fun this innit /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Fireball, can you add ybw_wildbird to the ybw list, it's Caroldevon, who has just joined, and set off into the Med, but will take part in leg 2 properly
The wind system went further North than I had expected and I'm a bit too far South now so I can't get the same angle as you. A lot of boats are screaming down towards me. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Not making 29knts but am slightly north and looking to keep good wind speeds in the right direction all the way through.
Made two YBW places overnight - Brendan and Victorious and pulled out a 100 mile lead on both to boot.
Not sure what will happen in the latter stages though. if the win stayed all the way to CT it would be a breeze, but its starting to look very changable up ahead.
I've made up 200 places in the last 24 hours. I am only 30 miles away from Dipper and even more of a miracle, now only 6 hours behind the leader, who was about three weeks ahead of me for most of the race /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
