Agree with above. Used 3 strand nylon for second anchor warp until 8 strand came available. 8 strand is more flexible and can be flaked down enabling it to run out of the locker.

Nylon isn't automatically UV resistant but can be pretty good if made that way (right additives I suppose). Haven't tried it as anchor rope yet but I used this "everlasto" nylon stuff (in 20mm) as mooring buoy lines for a while and even with that continuous UV and wear it seemed to hold up well. I only stopped because I moved to another buoy and I hope it gave good service for the boat that took it over. As it is very smooth I worried about my splices holding up, but they were fine. I still have one and it's still pretty much as new, but not been outside all the time since... I would use it again.

I have a load of this rope left over from making mooring lines for a canal boat.

Everlasto 3 Strand Nylon Rope 14mm X 50m | Rope Source

Its nylon, its strong, it sinks, it can be spliced, it has some stretch...

Would it be suitable as an achor rope (salt water). (spliced correctly to chain etc)

Thanks!

As said above.

Much depends on the size of the vessel on which you intend using it. :)

If you sail a 50' yacht, I really urge caution

If the chain is 6mm you might struggle with a splice
