Why complain about it?
The usual reason: because it's European.
It seems a widely held view on here that anything European is per definition 'bad'.
Why complain about it?
Ah, good.
So the Latvian/Romanian/Serbian drivers of illegally-heavy HGVs who turn down the narrow lanes hereabouts, using GPS-equipped laptops, will now be able to drive right down the centreline - and take out BOTH fences at once....!

Galileo might, indeed, be used for road pricing. But we already have road pricing in umpteen other forms, none of which rely on GPS. And even if it were to be used for road pricing, the actual prices would be set by the UK gov't -- so you can be pretty certain that (a) they would be the highest in Europe and (b) blamed on the EC.Galileo is for road pricing,
Are the wants and needs of millions of other users entirely irrelevant?I have so far managed to find my marina berth without needing ordinary GPS.
Why should they lie about the cost of EGNOS but not about the cost of building motorways? If both sides of the equation are subject to the same factor of uncertainty/error/dishonesty, the comparison remains valid. As to cost, how would we know what any European project costs? The Commission's own auditors consistently refuse to sign off its accounts, and get persecuted for revealing confidential information when they try to explain in public their concerns

If you have no idea, another helpful answer when another boat asks "where is your anchor"
"its on the bottom"
No one can argue with that logic.
Galileo is for road pricing, so perhaps EGNOS is part of that. as to the increased accuracy, I have so far managed to find my marina berth without needing ordinary GPS.
I have a Garmin GPS12, no idea how I could alter this to pick up the new satellites rather than use the American 'birds', do not think it could be.Works with my Furuno GP-32 = and that model's been around for quite a few years.
IWhat about my Simrad CX33 around four years old - can this be altered?
