Well,
I have just had an email correspondance with Essex over the purchase of a boat. I will not put it all on here to save their blushes, but since selling £1m Fairlines they seem to have lost the plot on Values..
Boat is a 1999 Fairline Targa 30 (twin Kad 32's). It needs some cosmetic work (covers, interior fabric) but technically sound..it was new in 1999 and bought by a fellow forumite for £90k ish
"...On the other hand our Targa 30 is worth anywhere between £85-90,000 in top condition [This is 2007 and the boat is 8 years old!!!!!]. It would take approximately £3-4,000 to have the entire boat re-upholstered, adding in a “grief factor” of £3,000 that would value the boat at around £78-80,000. A fair trade deal on this is £70,000.
This means the deal would read as follows: £70,000 (Targa 30) these boats are on various website for anywhere between £75,000 for a 2000 to £91,000 for a 2001....[This boat was for sale all 2006 for £65,000 and did not sell!]
Alternatively we could wait until the boat is free to move, bring her here, re-upholster, service, clean and put a warranty on her (total cost of £5-6,000) and sell her for £85,000. [Good luck mate, must be planning to take a twin Petrol off someones hands at that price]
I think you will agree Paul that this is in fact a good deal, clearly when you come to sell the boat you will be clearly ahead financially".....[How...basic maths????]
They have clearly lost the plot......they made their name out of fair deals, where they made a decent profit. Basically they want to make £23,000 on a trade deal....and that includes PX ing back my boat at £9,000 less than I bought it off them in June 2006!
I am afraid they will have a lot of used old boats on their books this Summer with an attitude like that!
PS, Just worked out That a Fairline only loses 5.5% over 8 years but an Aquador loses 42% over 4 years....best to buy a Fairline then /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Cheers
