Bad news this week as we find what looks like electrolysis on the shaft. After posting up the picture on the Practical Boat Owner forum we get a decent response from Vyv Cox, whose website gives us all the answers we need (and it's not electrolysis).

Managed to grab a street photo of the lads removing the shaft. I'm planning a photography project called 'Street From The Yard', a collection of the more unusual pictures of our refit. This one's called 'Robot Head'.

The other problem we've been having is the swimming platform. This wide-angle shot gives a warped view of its hugeness. Of course this is to be cut down eventually, the idea being it goes through the transom and is counterpoised in the lazarette. It seems someone built the template without taking into consideration the width of the bar itself, so we're bending the ends in a little more. The video explains this in more detail.

At least the ceiling is looking great. It's almost finished, which means we can start the deck fittings soon. With those wide boards covered in white laminate it makes the saloon feel a lot wider.

And this week I plumbed in the deck shower, which has been fitted to the starboard aft box, and we're installing a new tap in the heads. You can't see it in this image but it has a shower attachment. Retracted, it acts like a normal tap. Pull the hose out and you've got a shower and Asian-style bidet!

All the masts and booms have now been fitted. Whilst trying to retrieve a mouse lead-line, I discovered some little creature had been building a nest in our boom.

Finally, do you own a Baby Blakes toilet? Do you need to replace your lid? We have a spare one and Liz is returning to the UK next week. We're not giving it away, I'm afraid. We've seen replacements priced at £600 or more!

With your swim platform, I built something similar around the hydrovane on the back of this old tub , are you supporting it externally ? Our RIB got caught under the platform from the wash of a passing ferry, when the frame came down hard onto the RIB it left a small but noticeable bend in the base of the platform that i have yet to straighten out , god knows how much force that took !

we have (royal we)…well ok … I HAVE also clipped a pontoon with it trying to get off a wind on pontoon in Camaret, sometimes I wish I hadn't fitted it , then of course I go for a swim off it and alls well with the world.

more recently we had a better ladder made up, the sockets that fit into the teak slats also bolt through the stainless frame underneath , they were made the same size as the passerelle socket so when the ladder is out and stowed we can fit the passerelle onto the swim platform , which the dog discovered was an easy escape route, jump onto the swim platform , up the passerelle - he ran through the restaurant hounding people for food and then into the kitchens before being "arrested" and tied to a railing outside, so now Ive had to extend the canine concentration camp netting to the stern as well (removable)

That's a decent sized swim platform, close to what we're looking at. We did have a swimming platform once. It was thin enough that when my gearbox failed and I took out an electricity pedastal in Bodrum marina it bent out of shape. It was a **** design anyway. I'm still in two minds about the support of this platform. With the ends fixed inside the lazarette it should be good enough but I'm a big lad and those upper struts like yours may still be an option. Makes a great bike rack, btw. Love that!

If I could Id change mine slightly and bow the supports further out instead of having them vertical , they only get in the way occasionally but often enough to wish id penned the design differently , as for the bike rack , it works exceptionally well in the marina , beyond that the bike is stripped ,oiled , bagged and stored in the spare cabin with all the other boys toys :-)
