The boxes were glassed in last week and they are rock solid. Lek, our worker from Myanmar, then spent the first part of the week filling in the gaps, lumps and bumps with the glass balloon-filled epoxy, making it look like a badly iced cake.
The cockpit box is taking shape nicely. Now that it's been cut, shaped and fixed in place, the front and lid are being fitted. This is a honeycomb structure with an epoxied layer of fibreglass. Another rock solid construction that remains fairly lightweight.
Our head carpenter, Pong, selected some more teak from the yard and spent the first morning on the saw mill, preparing our cockpit teak. He's overseen by Un who made all the measurements.
Props to Pong for his eye for selecting a decent piece of teak. Just wait till you see the floorboards!
With the pieces cut Pong begins to fit the cockpit teak, overseen by his grandson.
But it was a sad week in the yard, I'm afraid. The two kittens who used to appear in our video clips were savaged by the yard dogs. Their mum, pregnant with her fourth litter, was rescued. It's all in the special news bulletin contained in this week's video clip. Have a great weekend, and here's to the crew of Cheeki Rafik. Our thoughts are with their families.
