I guess what he's saying is that the Garmin (and similar stuff) is safe against splashing/rain/dropping in puddle/bilge but not guaranteed to suvive dropping over the side. No matter what you attach to it!

a special Christmas one, designed to lift SWMBO's Christmas pudding

[/ QUOTE ]No prob at all, I'll adjust my new device to be effective also with pudding.
Wadduthink, should I advertise it as "pudding compatible"?

Re: Consider it done

Naah. It'll be as effective in keeping pudding from sinking as it'll be with any heavier items.
Yes, heavier than unit18 swmbo's puddings, believe it or not! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PS: I know, I know, nobody's taking me seriously at the moment... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
But I'll have the last laugh, when everybody will see how my device complies perfectly with each and every claim I made so far!

Re: Consider it done

I am taking you device in the most seriuos of ways - I even appliedf for a job and was turned down in rather a brutal fashion. Your device may be a world beater but you have some man managment skills to learn and that is coming from someone who knows!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Consider it done

Who was it who had a supply of the USA devices?
I would not mind one to do a test on it and publish the test video.
It would be a sort of benchmark.
I will happily pay for it.

Re: Consider it done

Now, don't make me feel guilty!
You know as well I do that I didn't turn you down.
Take5 with his overwhelming skills have done you out of the job, you can only blame him...
Though I might consider offering you a job in claims dept instead!
I'm actually confident not to have any claim to deal with, but just in case, who knows? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Consider it done

Mapism
I accept that Take5 outdid me in marketing skills but its the man management way you told me. there a better ways to let some one down by praising their good points as you boot them out of the door as it were.
Now you offer me a job in a department where instead of making claims ) have to basically reject them a sort of Gludy purgatory.
Yet I had real faith in your new product and was willing to devote the rest of my life to make it successful – its not just about superior skill like Take 5 but about tenacity – sticking with it and that I am good at! Do you want me to prove it?

Gludy, I'm surprised you aren't suffering from Bi-thread disorder yet, posting a reply to the wrong one. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah I agree - can't we add all this to the original thread - we might even beat the record!!

[/ QUOTE ]Ooops, how sad, I didn't think about that, my sincerest apologies!
Though you'd still rank as excellent in the "rejecting" job even if you'd be just half as good as in the "making" one! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
PS: forgive me also for the poor man management, most of my daily job is related to that one way or another, that's why I take a rest at least when I'm around here...
PPS: by daily job I mean the usual one, aside from the development of the new device of course!

You're actually lucky, 'cause we gave you the opportunity to quickly understand the truth!
It normally takes years of experience to see the light...

Re: Consider it done

Now that I just read Observer's shocking post on the other thread, rest assured that I'll work to my project 24/7!
If waterbuoy business is worth £1M, for what I have in mind only the sky is the limit!

My god man, you have no concept of what you are dealing with here, after a recent visit by some American friends we were contacted by NASA as to the make up of her batter mix, something to do with tile adhesion on the shuttle I believe.
Please don't make wild claims, you'll only have Gludy to fend off at a later date, even, I suspect, if you employed him. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Consider it done

Gludy

While I do not dispute your understanding of this subject (which is why I have already stated in the other thread that we will carry out some more tests), I do think you are getting a bit bogged down on this.

Having been boating for many years I have had the 'opportunity' to lose many many things in the water. I can honestly say that I have never lost anything out at sea. Everything from mobile phones to VHF's to keys, tools and even a Sealine Table leg, have been lost in harbour. The maximum depth I have ever dropped anything in, and lost it, is probably no more than 5 mtrs.

I have also never had the need to protect a 1kg lump of high density metal, nor have I ever lost one overboard. I guess the nearest to this would be a bunch of keys and I know for a fact that a cork keyring of the type many people use can be sunk by just a few keys. (you would be surprised how few)

When we tested it we thought a tin of beans was representative of something like a hand held radio. Now I am sure that a cork keyring wouldn't lift a handhelf VHF and doubt it would support a tin of beans.

What the test proved to me, apart from they need to sort out their trigger problem, was that the WB is better at supporting stuff likely to be dropped in the water than a traditional cork keyring.

If you are worried that their claims are misleading, no problem. That is something for you to take up with them, or alternativly, just not buy one.

I'll let you know how we get on with the further tests, as and when WB supply me with some samples. And I will test it up to their claims and also more thouroughly with everyday things that are likely to be dropped in.

If it doesn't bring a kilo of lead up from mid channel, but does bring everything else to the surface in the marina, their claims are wrong, but the product in my mind is still good.

So its not developed as yet!

Naah, already developed, tried and tested.
Even swmbo was shocked by how easy and effective the final solution to this problem was.
I'm just working on the legal part at the moment, as I said the imitators are my real concern.
Actually, the first indications from my lawyer are rather worrying, apparently it'll be extremely hard to get patents on it.
Oh, well. In the worst case, if it can't fly as a business, I could still disclose it for free as a Xmas gift to all forumites...
