hi,
i have a hunter horizon 272, love the boat dearly and will be keeping it for a good few years, i have been removing the antifoul ready to epoxy in the spring, the boat has no osmosis etc and is out of the water for the winter.
i am now wondering wether it is worth epoxying or should i just leave it, the anti foul was a mess so needed taking of anyway and after reading earlier posts there appears to be no benefit to the resale price when i come to sell it.
has any one heard of the british hunters having osmosis and do you think it is worth epoxying, boat is 1989.

Now you've stipped of the a/f is the time to do it if you are going to.

Make sure you clean and abrade the surface throughly though as I know someone who didn't do it well enough and has had to scrape the whole lot off again.

There are a number of Hunters(British) built I understand in the mid to late nineties which had a problem with the resin.I know because I found out when I came to sell my Hunter Ranger 265 which showed very high moisture readings for it's age(It had been epoxied from new). There is detail & discussion about this on the Hunter Association website in the Technical section. It does cost £6 p.a. to join though.

I believe there were two problems .... a resin issue around 1994/6 and a gelcoat issue around 1998/9. I wasted a lot of time and money getting to the bottom of these issues when buying mine. I am confident 1989 is fine though (Did they make 272's in 1989???)

The 27s and 272's have suffered blistering despite being epoxied from new. Mine was their ex demo boat I know of 4 now. also there was a problem with the 323's dont know from when but heard of Hunter paying damages

interesting stuff, yep i think they started making the first in early 89, and mine is hull 49, ive not had it moisture checked so not sure how damp it is but the gel coat is in good condition, i have not joined the hunter assoc. as cant quite see why it has to be paid for when all other owners assoc seem to be free, but i will check it out if there is any info .
so still not sure if its worth putting a coat on it or if its got this far in fresh water with no probs is it likely to remain unproblematic now its on the sea
