Epirb activated 600nm SW of the Azores

Combining the 2 is a good idea.

they are not "combined", they are two completely different animals

a GMDSS SART works on radar frequencies (around 9GHz) and provides a specific echo on radar screens only

an epirb works primarily through satellite on 406ish MHz, some of them (a lot actually) have an additional transmitter at 121.50MHz which allows homing from rescue units but does not show anything special on radar screens

regards

Some transmit their GPS location - it is an optional extra when first purchased.

I was reading the latest article this morning, and unfortunately the French Navy vessel was going back after abandoning their sweep late last night. They haven't found crew & vessel. On the facebook group, 2 skippers were getting ready to leave Paris today to go and search themselves. really sad!

Over the time frame, that is also consistent with wreckage drift.

Hope it isn't though.

Yesterdey, a Falcon50 from the French AF base at Lorient has left to -probably- pass over the area indicated in the US nav warning; anyway, it made two search flights of about 2 hours each over the area and has not found anything.

Just returned from the Azores! Delivering a boat from St Maarten, (20 days on one tack!)
News of this boat and the Norwegian boat 'Lady Domina' now believed lossed, (seach called off)!
We sadly lost, one of our crew members on 'L D' from our 'outward bound' ARC crossing in December!

Sad news indeed. I did not publish any news about the "Lady Domina", although Bajansailor did mention this yacht overdue in his thread of 05 May 2013:

UP-DATE ! 'Lady Domina' - News in todays (29.05) Norwegian Press say that the seach maybe re-opened!
Its now 2 months since they departed St Maarten. Stores must be gone! Knowing, if sightly one of the missing crew. He was on his computer and on the internet all the time , when in range! If they have landed somewhere, I feel, we would have heard from him!

Falcon 50 wrong AC

A Falcon 50 moves at 600 miles an hour. That gives it a benefit and a drawback. The benefit, it covers territory fast. The drawback, at 600 miles an hour it is hard to see much. A slower aircraft, maybe a turbo twin, would have moved at half the speed and been a better platform.

The human spirit is incredibly strong. I know this is a tough case, but I have great hope these sailors will come out on top. Our hearts are with you, hope it all works out.

Survival Quite Possible

I have just read this thread and although it is now well outside the presumed survival period I pray for a miracle

Actually, for the Lady Domina, survival is quite possible. They had extensive provisions on board the yacht.

Does anyone know when Anders Mosteid and Stian Abrhamsen joined the Lady Domina? Was it in St. Martin?
