I see that epifanes advertise a thinner to go with their clear varnish. Is this essential, or will white spirit do the same job? I thought that it all evaporated off anyway.

On behalf of a senior member who won't have access to the forum this weekend - USE PURE TURPENTINE for a better finish!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Pure Turps is Ye olde way of thinning paints and varnish . I know a decorator that uses it and his finish looks like it's under a film of glass .

Correct.

one coat of 50/50 on bare wood, follwed I reckon by about 8 coats of neat straight out the tin and you'll have the glass like finish.

After that I reckon a quick nib and two fresh coats every year.

there is a mention of keeping the tin warm. any sugestions of how to do this?? i was thinking of just useing a camping stove for 5 mins then starting it up again after 10-15 mins. is that a good idea???
