I am applying Epifanes over cured epoxy and intend thinning the first couple of coats. I think I have read somewhere that white spirit is ok for this. Not sure though.

All advice welcome.

Hoping to get started tomorrow but will delay if people think that white spirit is a no no.

Clean epoxy with meths.

Can take a long while to dry (ie the varnish).

Not sure that it is necessary to thin first coats over epoxy though.

White spirit is OK, but you only thin the Varnish to allow it to penetrate wood, it will not penetrate epoxy.
Apply straight from the tin coat on coat, rub down after 3 coats, then a 2 further coats. Lovely.

I did that years ago direct on to wood. Striped it all off last year to start again...... sanded straight to the wood... no evidence of any penetration at all..... it's all lie.........

But yes, white spirit is the stuff to use. But no........... no point over epoxy. Unless it's an old tin and it may need a few drops to let it down a bit.
