Does anybody know of a UK equivalent for Epidermix epoxy that is widely used in South Africa. It is a 2 pot glue that is massively strong.

I want to use this sort of thing to bond some new wooden bearers to my GRP hull before glassing them in.

Regards

Wayne

G'day WayneS,

I did a search (No doubt you did too) and could only find ZA sites close to you.

I have used, after extensive testing, West System Epoxy mixed to a paste with fibres also from West System, designed for use as a glue, I can assure you it's very strong, we managed to break 3/4 marine ply not by it delaminating, but snapping across the sheet leaving the joint in tact.

On normal timbers, the breakage was consistently along the grain of the timber, including hard woods.

I hope this helps, and no I have nothing to do with West System, but have managed to use quite a bit of it over the years.

Avagoodweekend....

yea... what the Oz bloke said!

you can order the stuff from CFS fibreglass on www.cfsnet.co.uk

or phone them for advice on... 01209 821028 they're really helpfull

just remember west stuff does have a shelf life, and it pays to buy the pump dispensers...

the other stuff (wot is simmilar) is blue gee epoxy... it works out a bit cheaper too... but then, it's not yank!

hope this helps, steve.
