Ensign size

Er......?

And for those of us with 2 hulls, or and maybe topical .... what about RumPilot's trimaran.

I like the idea of dual use for items, even 3 uses if you use your imagination so I thought maybe I could use the ensign as a bedspread, but only after sunset and before dawn. Iit appears unless we owners of proper yachts can add our hull lengths together it will be far too small for a bedspread and maybe only useful to dry the crystal wine glasses. :(

Surely the answer for you is one ensign for each hull? Otherwise you will look unbalanced.

My ensign ( much to the wife's annoyance --which makes it better) is frayed & has holes in it to represent the bullet holes gained in the battles the navy has fought around the world.
The French have a tiny flag- probably because they are ashamed of it. Whilst the Dutch are rightly proud, so display the biggest their yacht can carry. The Germans do not know what to think, due to past demenours, so just have an ordinary one . Nobody cares what the Belgians have.
If you see an EU flag on the stbd crosstrees, it is because the owner is probably relying on income from youtube & cannot afford to buy lots of courtesy flags

And those of us in one of the Colonies are quite entitled to fly the, or is it, a, Blue,( or Red), Ensign whereas you lot are required to fly only a Red Ensign unless you, like us, are very special.

And there was me thinking that a blue ensign was a warning meaning-
I wear red trousers, A peaked hat, sail a ????? with blue sun stripe on the genoa I know all things about everything, look out when I berth, when going forward because my boat does not answer the helm in reverse. & it is my crew's fault. They are slow learners you know

Sure signs of envy ignorance (not forgetting arrogance) and a desire for the good old days. :)

Wait until you get rammed up the transom by some twat, dressed as I describe & see how you feel.
Just sit in a marina & watch the antics of some of them. You need to do a survey. It is part of the fun of marina life that you string swivellers do not get to appreciate. It would surprise you ;)

We don't do marinas.

We actually don'r do ensigns much here either, most of, virtually all of us, are from here so there is no need to show where we are from. There must also be some sort of law about dressing as you describe - totally alien.

People don't seem to wear red trousers on boats these days. I used to have the odd pair and they made a nice change from the ubiquitous blue. I've never had a blue ensign but try my best to avoid discriminating against them.

I'm usually a bit fussy about flags etc, but I personally don't much like oversize ensigns that almost touch the water. I am quite happy that a 3/4 yard one is fine for a 35 ft modern sailing cruiser - defaced blue in private use, red when I'm not aboard or can't be bothered to also hosit the burgee. And I hate really ratty faded and frayed ensigns.

Just an anecdote about flags……..whilst on a coaster steaming out of Flushing the skipper called for the pilot pennant to be hoisted,as it asended ?the bracket holding the block descended with the cross tree?

We inhabit the harbour in Britain with the most blue ensign fliers, (and a load of white ones too) and all 3 of our transoms are virgin.

White ones can be interesting. There was a cruise of 25 plus white ensigns arrived in Boulogne one year. Early in the morning there was a massive BANG. All the white ensigns were suddenly displayed, then the owners( many dressed in pyjamas) all appeared to go back to bed, leaving us mear mortals somewhat bemused
