ENOUGH FENDERS????

Soooo frustrated, we have been hit now three times this year, causing damage and scratches to the boat, the last time was yesterday, fortunately I have a video of that collision and the marina has already assessed the damage and spoken to the perpetrator.

Perhaps I just don't have enough fenders out - what do you think? Sigh.... Should only take us half a day to bring them in and stow them each time we want to go out.....

On each occasion docking witnessed by dockmasters (almost a contradiction in terms) whom were assisting??? If I posted the video(s) up, it would almost be amusing. Every time, no lines at all prepared by the visitors, before entering the berth. I wouldn't mind but there is acres of space available compared to some (most) berths in the Med...

Why not obtain a cheap old 10 foot -ish inflatable dinghy and tie it up alongside, you can just leave it behind when out and it makes a point to observers. Then if the dock hands have to board your boat to move it, at least they will be in the right place to fend off any errant visitor. I think uk customs at Dover are desperate to get rid of a load right now?

You might do better if you were able to persuade the marina manager to find you a better berth, such as the one across the water ahead of you. Or ideally somewhere with a neighbour who rarely goes out.

I don't know where MK is but if it is the sort of place where money talks, a discreet well-stuffed brown envelope might help..........................

If you tie the fenders horizontal in a continuous line it may provide more protection.

You could also have 2 lines staggered so any gaps would not attract any boat to head for the gap.

I was thinking along the lines of a few fender planks with the odd rusty nail or two myself. And if that wasn't enough remove the charcoal filter from the black water tanks when away. Why should he be the one to slip a fat brown envelope over?

MK is where we live and includes the Concrete Cows....! The boat is in MDL Sant Carles de la Rapita.

The marina has very few 15m berths available, I am on the case...!

Think I may need to run fenders horizontal as suggested, if I cannot move the boat, its a shame as the marina and staff are great, they just need to tell visitors when they give them the berth number to set some lines before entry, there is sooooo much room and a huge almost empty visitors berth they can hang on if its windy, just no need for it.

A permanent neighbour would be a real bonus, at least you could set a series of fenders to match the boat.

Don't get me wrong, I have no objection whatsoever if a boat is reasonably well prepared but needs to lay-on my fenders when blown on, we have all been there, it gets a bit gusty in the evenings where we are, but not to even have lines ready in those conditions, despite several crew on board (I know we don't know how experienced they are, but the skipper should) then twist and turn hitting the bow and then stern of my boat is soooo unnecessary! Anyway moan over, repairs being assessed....

I know some find this funny, but I just want to say that I genuinely feel very sorry for you, it must be really traumatic to have that happening repeatedly, hope you manage to avoid this in future mate

This is one of the early layouts of the marina but it shows where Y420 is located
These pics don't use the three digits so to find Y420 - look at row Y and berth number 20





Until they build Phase 2, that would be a lovely berth.
Nothing to the east - sun rises over the lagoon.
As you know we are on V14 - we leave our mid cabin curtains open so that the morning sun streams in.
We do get the occasional boat passing by too fast but it really isn't a problem.
Anyway, Y420 is a nice berth.

Nicolas (our MDL marina manager) has been excellent in responding and assisting in dealing with inspections/repair, he has also offered me the berth next to Tim (Y403) or Y423, the latter is attractive as I berth stern/port to. Not sure who my neighbour would be. I will look at the berth(s) when next out on 29th. I am currently in Z430.

Oooooooooooooo - Z403 - thats a bit close for comfort!!

Actually, IMO, Z403 would be much nicer than Y423.
The marina doesn't suffer from swell but Z403 is well away from anything coming in from the sea.
